WZFC? Pirate operating out of Poughkeepsie/Arlington?

While driving through Poughquag en route to Poughkeepsie on 102.5 a station came in operating under the Monikor "Z Rock". The sweepers sound quite cheesy, and have a nerdy sound to them. Once i got into the LaGrange area reception came in even better, and got even clearer around the Arlington area. A FCC query finds nothing for the channel, nor does it have a web presence. From what i can tell they operate only on Weekends, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and have no jocks, but solely automated.

Bottom line is, they are pushing out 60 watts easy, props to them ;)
Anyone else heard this station?

"Z-Rock" has been on the air for quite some time, earlier on 98.9, recently moving to 102.5 after the 98.9 Poughkeepsie translator came on the air. When they were on 98.9, they seemed to be strongest in the Hopewell Junction area, but I never bothered to actually track them down. I expect they are operating from the same location now on 102.5. I first noted them late Spring of 2006. I don't know how they've managed to stay on the air this long.... the Poughkeepsie pirate on 105.3 a year or two ago didn't last very long.

I wish Z-Rock would go away, as they hamper FM DXing on what is otherwise a great channel. At least Z-Rock is not on the air all the time.

I seriously doubt Z-Rock is running anywhere near 60 watts, unless their antenna is in a ravine or something. Maybe 5 to 10 watts depending on antenna height. Actually, the elevation of the listening location seems to make a big difference in reception, and this indicates that their transmitting antenna is not very high above the ground.

Good mix of classic rock along with 80's and 90's rock. The playlist seems to go bit deeper then PDH or RRV. but what's kinda kool is there aren't any commercials, but instead short 30-45 second liner's from movies and TV like the Big Lebowski, Full metal Jacket, Family Guy and Simpsons. Pretty Sweet and a lot better then NPR or a Religious station pumpin in out of market B/S over 102.5!

Re: WZFC? Pirate operating out of Poughkeepsie/Arlington/Monsey -Spring Valley

I see that 102.5 is popular for pirates, we have one in Spring Valley Monsey NY area, splatter 102.7 here, poor audio, sounds over modulated, its either Hebrew or Yiddish. It wouldn't be so bad except the audio sucks. I have heard pirates before, but this one takes the cake. Hope they are taken off the air, i understand they are trying to fill a void in the area based on religion, but not as a pirate, this is a prime example for the need for LPFM, maybe it would be positive and force clean signals. Just my thoughts.

They were on Friday Saturday and Sunday, so Im assuming they are trying to stay as low key as possible, however i heard them in Pawling New York last weekend ??? ::) ::) ::)

Does anybody have any idea approximately where these guys are located? I doubt they are located near Arlington since, I live in Hyde Park and I only get some barely disguisable something (is them though) on 102.5. On the North side of Poughkeepsie they are very weak and choppy. What DX1ng saying about antenna height is proably accurate since I get 102.5 Z Rock loud and clear on top of the slight hill of the upper deck of the Poughkeepsie Galleria mall, but they start to fade a bit on route 9 itself and get quickly weaker as I head north. Do they have any DJs? If I had a pirate station I would want to be on the air, part of the time anyway.

took a good listen to our "Pirate " this weekend,i know your post says that you think he's coming out of the Poughkeepsie/ Arlington area i actually think that he's down more towards Wappingers Falls, i live up in the Hyde Park area and was heading into work this past Saturday at the Galleria and the more South i went on Route 9 the Stronger his signal got by time i got into the Galleria parking lot his signal was coming in Real strong with no break up's at all, almost like he was real close to the Galleria !!,, Great mix of the music too, just like the ol 'Z" rock of 92.9

The old Z-Rock was actually on 93.3

92.9 was "929Rock" and certainly reminded me of Z-Rock. Why can't WRRV be the same?
