I can't help you with this but I just thought I'd mention my experience.
I was listening to WSPA-FM 98.9 in Spartanburg, S.C., when I lived in the Hickory area in 1986.
I got interference from this new station, and I called them. The DJ sounded white and had no enthusiasm. Then all of a sudden he sounded like he was on the air and I figured he thought he was talking to another caller. No, he explained, he wanted to put me on the air. Ooookay ... I agreed to it. He asked me (in the part that supposedly went on the air), "Would you say, 'I've switched mine to Foxy 99?'" I said, "Yeah, when I can pick it up." Not really, since it wasn't my favorite kind of music, but I helped him out, I guess.
