WZID "Oh-wow" Song/Weekend

I've been listening to WZID all weekend because of this great "oh-wow" thing they're doing. I know they usually play an "oh-wow" song every day at 12:00 PM, and then again at 5:00 PM. And they have played some great songs that I haven't heard in years. But the question is: How often do they play these songs as part of their "oh wow" song every day? Do they always play the same ones? Because some of the "oh wow" songs I've heard this weekend get played quite frequently by other radio stations, most notably Magic 106.7 in Boston. I've heard "She Works Hard For the Money" by Donna Summer, "1999" by Prince, and "I Won't Back Down" by Tom Petty played as "oh wow" songs, and I think Magic plays those songs every day almost.

I find it sad that this is what you focus on. We lost part of our roof Thursday night. We were flooded by 3 inches of water in EVERY studio and YET we stayed on the air. We kept hundreds of thousands informed when they had no electric or heat. And this is what you focus on....I really feel sorry for you.

the oh wows dont get played that much maybe a few times a year most.

I'll be charitable. Average Joe listens to the radio 3 hours a day. If Selector is doing its job...You play "wow" twice a year...I hear it ONCE EVERY FOUR YEARS.

For me to hear "Wow" twice each year you need to play it every 3 1/4 weeks. I'm only going to hear it once every 8 times it plays.

Unless you are running it in an "Oh Wow" segment every day.

Oh Wow!...dental appointment. "Oh No!"

I just saw the video on ZID storm damage. I thought the roof was ripped off? He said they wer on the top floor. Damage does look extensive and they should be given props for staying on the air.

As for Oh Wow songs I used to have a "lunar" category full of those things that played like every 2-3 weeks. If they did a weekend of wow songs they should play things not heard on their air for a long time... one hit wonders... Sorry the song on the air during the damage walkthrough "Pina Colada" by Rupert Holmes does not count. They play that from time to time! But to fill an entire weekend with them? If they were live they could have had some real fun wtih them. I think they just programmed in a bunch of what they called "wow" songs and voice tracked their jocks. Was there any interatction with listeners? Did they do any contesting or forced listenting with it? I can't hear them so I don't know if they had fun with it OR how the storm impacted it.

Oh-wow, I haven't heard that song since...yesterday. And you wonder why people would rather listen to Pandora or Sirius.

I'll wager that at any given point in time, more people in N.H. are listening to WZID than Sirius, Pandora and any other 3 music streaming sources of your choice combined. OK, maybe not when Delilah's on, but you get my point.

I'm surprised that someone who's been in the biz as long as you doesn't realize that the average listener is not a music geek. What's an "oh wow" song to one of us is a "huh?" song to most listeners. "Electric Avenue" is an "oh wow" song to most people, some stiff that made it to #23 on WFEA's top 30 in May of 1974 is not, even though we radio folk may think it's cool to hear it again.

The one I was pissed off about was the one posted on the 27th. I had come home to check the boards to see if there was any info on how the other stations in the market handled the storm. I saw that someone had posted on this topic. And I was not happy. We had just spent the day working our butts off trying to keep WZID on the air and keep everyone informed on the storm and then I see that.
