WZKF FM "KISS 989 FM"

The switch was presented poorly. It's possibly one of the worst I've ever heard.

Sounded as if the PD/Afternoon Jock sat in a room and went, "let's tell people the station is flipping format and it will get people talking, yeah! that'll work". The entire 4pm hour was nothing more than dreadful breaks about the end of kiss. Then at 5pm, a break with PM drive jock and night jock explaining the station was still the same station just with a new name. Mentioned the jocks at a cross town station.

HUH?

WTF would you waste the time and effort of creating a name change if you're gonna just say it's the same station?!?!?! The whole point of a name change is to flush out the old brand that was tired and worn out. why not launch with something special like a music promise. (songs in a row) or at least a commercial free hour. They went right into the Justin Beiber giveaway which he promoted as something they we're promising all week. AGAIN, Beiber tickets are huge, as a new station they could have launched with a Beiber giveaway, rather than make it sound like these were Kiss-Fm left over tickets.

How stupid. Guess they have nothing better to do than to reimage themselves. Kiss was better. I have an aircheck or some may call internet check of Kiss FM already so it doesn't really matter. They need to tell DJX to stream online!

Is 98.9 considered a mainstream CHR? I looked in their playlist of the past several hours and there has been no Taylor Swift or The Script being played.

According to PD Mike Klein, he is positioning WZKF as a "Top 40/Mainstream with a Rhythmic lean." Personally, if they're aiming for a Rhythmic direction they should go that route instead of disguising it as a Top 40/CHR.

Come on now, while I can't comment on the way it was relaunched, I'm sure its not hard to guess why.
This isn't nearly the same station it was a year ago. 3 of 4 dayparts with new jocks in them, a much more Rhythmic intensive playlist, and a new signal that penetrates the core better.

Kiss had been around 10 years and most of that time had played 2nd string to 'DJX. If the perception of the market is "yeah, Kiss is ok, I listen to them when DJX plays something I don't like, or is playing a commercial", then its tough to turn people on to the changes you've made, if they thought the product was subpar before. However an overhaul of the brand to say 'hey, we're brand new' is much more likely to get people to sample and perhaps like what they hear.

I'm glad Radio Now is putting some real effort into being a fun station to listen to. CHR is WEAK in the market. DJX with jockless mids and syndie afternoons? Sad. Very sad.

Give Salem its radio station back, you evildoers!!
Did Salem ever own 98.9? I thought that Don Martin sold it directly to CC.

I believe he meant Salem, Indiana, not Salem Broadcasting.
You're right...when I saw the word Evildoer, it guided my though train toward Salem, the Christian Broadcaster.
