It's already a good FWB signal but they have an application pending that will bring the TX onto one of the Hollywood Blvd. towers right in the heart of town, still with 50 kW. They won't lose much population to the east since there is little between FWB and Panama City, but they'll gain a lot of territory towards Pensacola which may be part of their plan.
For this to happen, WOSM in Ocean Springs, Mississippi agreed to cancel a long-unbuilt permit to boost them up to 100 kW, which would have given them quite a nice signal in both MS and parts of AL. With that nixed, it appears Blazin' 103.1 will now be able to move into FWB-proper.
I spent the better half of a second day in Pensacola today and was surprised to hear 103.1 fairly well up around the Cordova Mall area. But more surprising was the very strong presence of 105.1 Bob FM, along with 92.5, 94.5 99.3, 105.9 and 107.9 all booming in from Panama City. Bob was completely obliterating the much closer 105.1 up in Century in that part of Pensacola. And 105.9 was causing a little interference with 105.7 from Orange Beach and 106.1, too. Very strange, since it was like that two days in a row.
One last intemperate thought on this possible upgrade for Blazin': If the upgrade goes through, they'll put a decent secondary signal into Pensacola, same as 96.5 and 99.5 I believe. I have to wonder if that will seal the fate of the little translator on 103.3 that relays Divine Word's AM station in Pensacola. It's 250 watts and puts a pretty good signal out. It's strong well out past Avalon Point last time I checked. Could be some room for complaints in that area?
