WZLR In Search For A Weekend Request Show Host

The New 95-3, The Eagle (WZLR/Xenia), which now plays 80's Classic Hits, wants to find a
live...local jock to host a weekly all request show on Saturday nights. Might any of you jocks from the 80's who are still around be possibly interested? (Just a thought.)

You would be working in brand new facilities with state of the art equipment. The show will be fun...no liner cards to read. What's being sought is someone who can capture the fun and magic of a live request show. (Live? Local? Phone calls and requests? What a concept!)

If you're interested, hit me up with a PM...I'll tell you where to send your demo...

Here's a quick update:

First...thanks to all those who have expressed interest in the position for The New 95-3, The Eagle's Saturday Night Request Show. Your applications are all under consideration...(and we got some very good sounding ones, as well as some very experienced folks, too...)

We did want to announce that Randy Cohn will be joining us on a strictly fill in basis for the Request Show. You might remember that Randy did a similar show for us on our sister station, the former 95-7. The Point. Randy will fill in for the regular host. The reason we're doing this is that we know that everyone needs a night off once in a while...we just want to be able to ensure we have a backup host, so the program can stay live and local every single weekend.

If you have an interest in applying...respond to me by PM and I will let you know how to get your presentation considered.

Randy was super when he was on the Point and it'll be great to hear him again! Will The Eagle open their library all the way or will it be a tightly restricted set of songs to request from?

I don't pay for Jerry Del Colliano's newsletter, and he's not always right, but he had a lengthy tease that stated Cox will be going through "Cumulus-style cuts". Might be one reason for it not to happen.

"Cumulus-style cuts"? Please clarify. Inquiring minds want to know!

At Cox in Dayton, K99's only live daypart is morning drive, Eagle has NO live dayparts, WHIO AM & FM are only live in morning drive plus some weekend shows, but does have live news people 'til fairly late. I know that their off-air staffing is pretty tight. Not sure where else they can cut. Lawn service? Oil changes in station vehicles?
;D

I actually read the Del Colliano newsletter in question. The cuts he was talking about took place in Louisville last year and the year before. In a style reminiscent of The National Enquirer, the piece had a lot of half-truths and a few untruths that painted things in the worst possible light.

For instance, he talks about a receptionist that's doing mid-days on one of the stations. What he neglects to mention is that she is a long time radio vet who was doing mornings at a top station in a medium market before moving to Louisville. Prior to her doing mid-days, the station had nobody at all in that time slot. But "ohmygod! - it's so bad they put their receptionist on the air!" ::)

I guess he feels sensationalism will sell a lot of newsletters, and he's probably right. But if that kind of column is typical of what he purveys as truth, I sure won't bother buying his rag.

Hey, wait- did this thread really begin about adding live talent to ZLR, and now we've come full circle to a complaint that the station has no live dayparts so where are they going to cut? ??? Really?

I think maybe interested parties should send their info to Jason Roberts, because I suspect it's going to play out just like he said. Or let's at least wait for him to announce a change of plans before inventing one of our own. Please!

Greg: NOT a complaint, just an observation, with my usual warped humor thrown in at no extra cost. I assumed that the reference to "Cumulus style cuts" was way off base, Cox has streamlined their Dayton operation over several years and both WHIO and K99 have owned the town so obviously they're doing something right. If they're making money with The Eagle on auto pilot there's nothing wrong with that either. Nick does a stellar job running the operations end and don't think that other people in town aren't jealous of his success. Personally I'm excited about the possibility of a live request show on The Eagle on Saturday nights!

Coming up on 2 months now since the original job opening post here. Still no show. Is this actually gonna happen? ???

Yes...it is. However, like all larger companies, it take a while for paperwork to come back...
