Re: WZLX 20 years ago: The Lost 45s

"Only when Barry played them. he played all sorts of stuff on WZLX on lost 45's that didn't fit their format."

Oddly enough, "The Lost 45s" was solidly #1 there from 1986 until I left in 1992...formats weren't so anally narrow then and listeners usually have Saturday Night Fever and Led Zep LPs in their collection. It's so sad there isn't room for that now, except on the current show on Oldies 103.3. Then again, ZLX and MIX 98.5--my two longest homes before 103.3--will soon be in the same building. Who would have thunk that in 1986?

By the way, as someone who was at The Kat 100.7 and the start of ZLX, the format changed A LOT over the years. ZLX played Motown, Mel Carter's "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me" and even Earth, Wind & Fire back then...they did evolve into pure Classic Rock...but that wasn't until 1990 or so.

Tom Scholz of BOSTON this Sunday, 7 to Midnight on "The Lost 45s"! Preview it now at http://www.lost45.com!
