wzlx beefing up the playlist?

is it me or is wzlx playing better music lately?

"I'm 18" by Alice Cooper is now a regular (does that have anything to do with Alice syndicated on ZLX? Good move anyway... play some of the slow Cooper stuff "Only Women Bleed", "You & Me", etc.)

the station is more listenable. Is it a fluke or are they going deeper?

If you were listening during Carter's shift (10-2), being MD he seems to have some license to throw on something a little different once in a while, but I think "I'm Eighteen" has been there right along. I haven't noticed the regular 'ZLX going substantially "deeper", but I do like the mix on their HD2 "Lost Classics & Deep Tracks" channel.

what did they do, expand from 10 songs to 12?
more Joe Cocker......NOT
Sorry ZLX is The WORST
....I have no axe to grind as an industry outsider.

no fluke....zlx has been experimenting with some stuff they didn't play 2 years ago that they may have played 10 years ago....probably just going in a cycle and "shuffling" it up a bit....my personal favorite has been the addition of intruder before pretty woman although ZLX should play take your whiskey home damnit

ZLX does open up the playlist at night with Kenny Young. And on the weekends. They also have this feature where the listener emails their top 10 favorite songs. It seems to me. That ZLX is avoiding listeners who email songs that are really deep. And favoring listener tunes that they play on a regular basis that test well. If you were to email ZLX:

Stranglehold, Nugent
The Core, Clapton
The Confessor, Joe Walsh
Even It Up, Heart
Abacab, Genesis
Elton John, Funeral For A Friend
The Stones, Bitch
The Doors, Gloria
Kinks, Destroyer
The Who, Pictures Of Lily

The above won't get played. But If you emailed:

Brown Eyed Girl
Stairway To Heaven
Hollywood Nights
Southern Man
Sweet Home Alabama
Glory Days
You Shook Me All Night Long
Refugee
Behind Blue Eyes
Waiting On A Friend

My gosh thats something they'll play soo darn fast! One day. Sooner or later. ZLX will have to grow its playlist.

Yesterday I tuned in to ZLX to hear "Lonely Hearts" by The Atlantic's played shortly after 1 o'clock pm. I double checked to make sure it was actually the radio and not somehow my Ipod but it was. A local band from the 80's on ZLX. It was wicked cool.

That's Carter Alan's shift. He's the MD and he gets to occasionally throw in a little bit of different stuff once in a while. He's been into the local scene since the late 70's when he was one of the hosts of WTBS/WMBR's "Late Risers Club".

Management should not be on the air. They hog all the good songs for themselves. ::)

Before I read Travis' post, I was going to mention he plays some stuff you don't normally hear on ZLX, but I hear he draws the line at Hall and Oates. 8)

I got to listen to him for a couple of hours the other night on my way home from the Keith Urban concert at the DCU (if you wanted to know where all the hot under 30 females were saturday night they were at the DCU) and I liked hearing him go off the reservation and play stuff I don't normally hear on ZLX.

Playlists have been too tight for too long. That's one of the reasons IPODS have done so well, and that people like me have multiple XM radios. XM plays EVERYTHING!

I appreciate it, now hopefully my boss is reading this....I agree I think a lot of station's playlists are too tight, but then again, we (as dj's in general) play the same songs everyday, the average listener may not tune in everyday, so hearing it every 4 days as opposed to everyday makes quite a difference....I actually draw the line at Kenny Loggins ;D

Heard "behind Blues Eyes by Roger Daltry and the Cheiftains , The Belfast Concert CD. Had to check my dial to see if I hit something other thanZLX. And today, punching buttons hit them and caught "Wooden Ships" by Jefferson Airplane off the Volnterrs LP.

I love that version of behind blue eyes....also catch the new doors live being spun...Jim is insanely drunk and roadhouse blues is unreal

I wonder if that new Doors CD is getting airplay in any other market?
