WZLX RDS Message

yesterday afternoon in the car listening to ZLX, on couple of tunes on the RDS message was the following
"(5.1)" Can assume with ZLX doing surround sound on their HD-1 that this was to notify that this tune was in surround sound. However, there are only a few prototype HD receivers to receive the signal in 5.1.
Is this an indication that Ibquity is gonna have HD surround radios coming out soon,or that ZLX might stream on the web in 5.1?

It just means that they were playing a disc with the material encoded in 5.1 surround sound, with the 5.1 text display for the RDS.

I don't have surround, but I do have HD radio at home, and I saw the display say 5.1 when they played something from the surround edition of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon". Even without surround, I could tell that there was a difference in the mastering and mix of the recording from the usual stereo version. It sounded really good. It seemed to be a much more balanced, less harsh sound than what I usually hear on 'ZLX.

the 5.1 is cool...but i don't know how many people will rush out to buy it...it's more of a novelty....that and hopefully zlx fixed the issues....it kept freezing up the last time we tried to use it

Travis, any favorite tracks u like in 5.1 ? How do u have the speakers set up in the studio?
I heard it almost a year ago when it first came to zlx...i remember The Who and Pink Floyd sounding awesome...but I specifically remember J Geils "angel is a Centerfold" being out of phase and sounding really weird...that one didn't translate well to 5.1
