WZMJ Batesburg

The application to transfer the station from Inner City (Debtor in Possession) to Lake Murray Broadcasting has been filed. Expect FCC approval in probably 60 days or less (or more!).

Because of the disclosures, we know the composition of the licensee. It looks like it is composed of friends and relatives of Mike Willis. Which is how it was done in the old days.

Congratulations to Mike ahead of the closing.

Legally, without an LMA in place, they cannot take control until the FCC gives its approval (which is pro forma, usually) and the deal closes.

Actually this kind of sucks for me here in Batesburg, as I enjoy ESPN radio very much, and if they move to AM out of Columbia, it won't be listenable anymore here. I have noticed 1170, WDEK, has very few advertisers on it, don't know the deal on that. Be nice if they could flip 1170 into the ESPN affiliate. Or better yet, I would love for them to get their hands on 1430 here in Batesburg. Still glad to see local ownership of stations instead of the usual.

....and a bit off-topic but since someone brought up 1170am WDEK, why is their audio so horrible? It sounds like they are re-broadcasting that satellite service with an open mic sitting next to a speaker.
