WZMJ Transfer Approved

The FCC approved the transfer of 93.1 WZMJ Batesburg to the Mike Willis-led group. Look for the deal to close ASAP with any corresponding programming changes at WZMJ and also within the former Inner City cluster happening soon.

Wasn't there something about ESPN potentially going to another Inner City signal? Would be one of the rockers I'm sure. WARQ's numbers aren't good, but would they blow up the only new rock station in Columbia?

I think they would do it in a heartbeat. 93.5 and 102.3 can be combined into a mainstream rock station. Now who will switch? My guess is 93.5 if this comes ashore. If not, I'd be surprised. 92.1 and 99.3 play the alternative side of things already.

So just 1 rock station in Columbia, and one less local morning show?
No offense to Dave, but if it came down to one or the other, don't you think John Boy & Billy would stay?

Mainstream rock station? Yes, please. John Boy and Billy? Ugh.

Which mainstream rockers out there do you feel are doing it right?

I'm not aware of JB&B on many, if any, mainstream rock stations, but I may be wrong. Typically it's a classic rock show...I would think the new rock audience is too old for the JB&B demographic.

The loss of a classic rock station would help 96.7 and 98.5 a little bit, I would think.

WEKL Eagle 105.7 (classic rock/ JB&B affiliate) out of Augusta is crystal clear throughout all of the midlands. So there is no loss of classic rock. People will just replace their preset of 102.3 with 105.7.
