WZMY-DT, why the extremely low power?

I've been told that the reason for WZMY's pitiful DT signal is because of "co-channel and adjacent channel interference" as a result of their Channel 35 DTV allocation. What are the contributing factors or stations that required them to operate at such a low power? I've wondered why did they not simply move back to Channel 50 with the original antenna system and operate in digital. They were one of the first stations in the Boston area to dump their original analog transmissions. Since many stations are reverting back to their original analog channels (with digital) like WHDH, WGGB, WMUR and WENH, could WZMY move back to 50, power it up to a more powerful signal to get some respectable coverage? From what I've seen, the DT signal is spotty even in the city of license (Derry, NH). Any thoughts?

By the look of their FCC record, the station has no intent to move their digital signal to 50, nor up their power. I wonder if the station's in it only for the cable coverage?

A reason the station cannot increase their coverage area is because of WPME-DT in Lewiston, ME and WVIT-DT in Hartford, CT, both of which operate on ch. 35.

Yes, but why not go back to 50, with the antenna that they were using for analog? While the 50 signal wasn't great, it was better than the 35DT.

They had a permit for much more power (96.1 kW versus 7.3 kW they have now), which they surrendered. They could have had priority over WPME, and are okay with respect to WVIT. But they surrendered it. Them arguing spacing is nonsense, and making excuses for their own crappy decisions. I hate to be rude, but it annoys me that they make excuses like that as though they're victims of something outside their control.

Channel 50 is horrifically short-spaced to WEKW, WJAR, and WLNE.
