now if they could do something about their signal (their station sounds/looks awful on cable)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Good point!
I worked at a cable company in southern Vermont a while back when WNDS decided to request, uh...make that insist that it be added to out "basic" lineup as it qualified under the rules of having a reasonable signal in our area.
"???"...was the response of the engineers.
Viewing the signal off-air from the headend, it looked like someone had put a couple of layers of cheesecloth over the TV screen.
However, the measurable signal was "just enough" (and I do mean "j-u-s-t" enough) to qualify.
We had to add it to the line up and while the programming was well received, customers had no shortage of comments about the signal.
The real test of how popular the station was came when it swapped to the shopping channel it became for a while.
The cable office received numerous calls about why we got rid of WNDS and put on "another" shopping channel.
Those folks that did not slam the phone down in our ears were told it was not our decision and by FCC rule, we were honor bound to keep the station on the lineup.
Everone was grateful when WNDS returned to it's regularly scheduled progrmming.<P ID="signature">______________
