WZNE/Rochester Names Kobe Fargo as New Program Director

https://news.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/headline_id=n39774

Kobe Fargo will join WZNE soon and will oversee a new morning show on December 1st.

WZNE-FM (94.1 The Zone)/Rochester names Kobe Fargo it's new Program Director for the Alternative outlet, which is undergoing a makeover that includes the debut of a new morning show on December 1. Fargo, a Rochester native who has programmed in Pittsburgh, Jacksonville, West Palm Beach and Syracuse, will work with Operations Manager Mike McCoy and GM Mike Ninnie on the transformation of "The Zone," which includes a new on-air lineup, new branding and more.

He's the only live body left there, and likely is under contract, so they have to pay him.

More changes: Syndicated "The Jubal Show" (from iHeart) comes to mornings starting Tuesday, Josh Venable named MD. Airstaff TBA.

Talk about a complete 180 from Rover. Jubal is a CHR talent.

A really strange replacement in my opinion. Any bets on WZNE flipping? If they'd flip to anything, based on the addition of Jubal, I'd put money on hot AC. Lord knows Rochester doesn't need a third CHR.

Format change?

Looking like a format change for WZNE may indeed be happening. Their website is “down for maintenance” until 6am tomorrow. AceBiscuits guess of Hot AC is a good guess since IHeartRadio did switch WDVI to AC from hot ac earlier this year.

It's possible that they will but I think it's also possible they won't. On one hand, there would be no (commercial) alternative station left in ROC, leaving some of the local college stations to possibly fill that void to some degree. On the other hand, Hot AC would definitely pick up more listeners and is an effective flanker to Warm 101.3.

Like I said originally, I just think the addition of Jubal's show, especially having listened to it, doesn't really fit the format in my opinion, but Ed's right in that it may work.
