WZRH drops talk

I just saw on 100000watts.com that Truth Broadcasting's, 960 WZRH/Dallas, NC, has dropped it's talk format for religion. I was listening to 960 the other day and heard spots promoting 1220 WDYT. I thought that was strange, but now this news explains why they were running those spots for WDYT.

I used to work for WZRH when it was just 1kw and it was pulling in a VERY good profit with talk. I think this is just another form of people who "think" they know radio not knowing how to program a local station. The area does NOT want another religious station, I am confident of that. It wants and NEEDS local radio. Oh well, take a good signal and ruin it...par for the course with the management at that company.

I had noticed several months back when driving through Gastonia-Charlotte that Danny Fontana's show was running on BOTH WZRH and WDYT. It also seems one other show was being simulcasted, but I don't remember exactly. At any rate, I thought this was strange for "competing" stations to be duplicating some of the same programming.

I've listened to ZRH just sporadically to see how it compared with WBT and I liked what I heard. However, something seemed peculiar to me...the show that they carry during mid-days (I fail to recall the host/program name) uses imaging/bumper liners with the same voice that does WBT's imaging.

You must have been listening to the Danny Fontana show. Danny's producer, Bo Thompson used to work at WBT. Bo was able to get national voice talent, Lonnie Perkins to do the liners for Danny's show...

They are probably trying to compete with WCSL in Cherryville. HRN recently did a sort-of flip from Contemporary Christian to Southern Gospel. They also purchased the preaching/teaching programs from Fontana's WKMT and are broadcasting at least six days per week from 3pm to 6pm from the old WKMT studios via phone line.

WZRH's parent company, Truth Broadcasting, owns 50 kw religious formatted stations in other large NC markets. Looks to me like they're quietly moving toward a wide area simulcast of syndicated religious programming.

Look for "Truth Talk Live" in the afternoons - Stu Epperson's show - issues from a religious point of view.

;D Does Epperson still own....13...Music 80......WTOB?

Nope. A couple of years ago he swapped it and WWBG-1470 to Davidson Media for the 50 KW daytimer white elephant on 1040 in Wake Forest that's now WDRU and simulcast with WTRU.

Later....
