WZTK format

Well, now that Curtis has bought WSJS for 8+ million, I would look for a format change on WZTK once he takes over. He can protect the talk programming with WMFR as CBS is now doing. He'll take ZTK to a music format. What's the hispanic population like in Greensboro? He could do a mexican regional format something CC is not doing. Curtis does have experience with this format and is not afraid of it. Oldies is also a possibility. Thoughts?

I think that WZTK is a refreshing place to go to when you get burnt out on music radio. Talk on FM is not popular on FM yet, but given time this station has the potential to succeed. I hope that they DON'T change it and give it time to grow. And hey, PROMOTE AND MARKET IT!

Although they've been struggling with the News/Talk FM, I think Curtis should keep it. They will own the News/Talk franchise and I think that's smart. They'll have a lot of leverage with the Networks and there's a lot they can do with Talk radio. They'll be specializing! Plus, I can't really think of anything they could change it to that would be any better. The Triad needs an FM News station, in my opinion. There are lots of opportunities for simulcasting when you own the franchise. I'll be watching (listening) with interest.

While waitin on some fresh JAVA.... again the best set up for Curtis would be news on all the AM's from WS to Raleigh go Oldies in 101.1 do a deal with or buy 94.1 currently Oldies and look at he sales possibilities. STATE WIDE news and Oldies... Curtis would still have all the news product held up The good stuff any way... OH listen the last few drops falling into the pot...GTG ltrz..

Z Man

;D

You might see some changes at all three CMG stations in the market, but don't look for ZTK to drop talk. Look, instead, for a better sales effort and more combo selling with the WSJS product.

You might see some movement of programming - like Sean Hannity, for example! His drawing power is currently wasted on WMFR.

There might be some network switches Fox, CBS, etc - but I would suspect the choice of networks will be based on the amount of compensation being offered the stations.

Curtis will keep the AM's all talk. Again, I would look for a format switch on ZTK. He will not want ZTK competing with the AM stations for the same ratings and advertising dollar. Remember, he paid 8 mil for the AM stations. He makes more money if the FM is a different format.

Well...that's a good point. I hadn't thought of the FM competing with the AM's. You may be right...there might be a need to change the FM. But what would you change it to? My thoughts were that WZTK doesn't reach WS very well, so comboing it with WSJS for Triad-wide coverage would make sense. However, then you have WMFR (High Point) and their other AM (Burlington?). What do you do with them, since WZTK covers those areas and it would compete? Hmmmm...

Rosco, you said

CC is doing Mexican format in G'boro...94.5 La Preciosa.

CC's 94.5 is not Mexican hispanic...it is more hispanic AC...there is a difference. It appears to me a Mexican music format is a possibility. It depends on the %hispanic population in Greensboro. There are other format possibilities...I'm not sure about oldies because it might hurt WPCM...and it depends on how long Majic 94.1 remains oldies. I am still hearing rumors about a sale to a hispanic group.
