WZXI Off

WZXI in Staunton is off the air. Word has it the sale to Vox Communications (WBOP, WSIG) has finalized and station is off the air for "technical upgrades" for studio and STL. Any rumor what it will be doing when it returns? It was a very anemic talk station with Bob & Sheri in AM Drive...barely showed up in the last book. Thoughts on what it should do?

Yeah - that's it....duh

They are probably having troubles getting an STL shot out of the Mt Crawford studio site to Buffalo Gap - it really is the edge of the earth. ZXi is really only an Augusta County Signal - when last on - it was very tough to pick up around town in Harrisonburg....unless they are moving the antenna?? ANybody heard.

They are sticking with country on WSIG - at least so far - maybe a simulcast? SIG is non-existent in Augusta Co...

So far their Oldies on WBOP are blah....

I had the chance to work at both WSIG and WBOP in the past. Is Les Irby still doing mornings and the Bluegrass show? How about Edd Michael is he still around?

Yep, just the other day...

Most likely the case unless you already know... :)

Les last I heard is still on SIG. Interesting thing about WZXI, about 10 years ago they were known as WSKO and were located on 105.5 FM.

The two hosts of a talk show that aired on SKO back then( Tanner Miller & Kim Leach ) currently runs Winchester's radio/TV website
www.btvonlinemedia.com

BTW..whatever became of Steve "just in case you are just joining us" Hajash?
He was the morning guy on WSIG for many, many years.

I programmed and did mornings at SIG back in....93 I think. For a few months, anyway. Financially, things were terrible - but because it was my first programming gig, I hung with it...that is, until the day I had to fire one guy, another quit, and a third (Les Irby) had to go to Florida because of a family emergency...leaving only me on the air. After three days of that, and the financial situation being as dismal as it was, I quit and went up to Q012 in Winchester for a bit.

Les never understood the concept of a program director. "Les, please don't play album cuts from obscure albums in afternoon drive..." "But why? I got a request for it...". No amount of begging or (at the end) forceful insistance could stop him, so....

What an interesting summer and fall that was.
