WZZK goes HD

I got a tip from someone in the area that WZZK is now broadcasting in HD. Currently there are no subchannels. That, I'm sure, will change. The fun part is going to be speculating what they plan on doing with those extra bits and which translators they plan on feeding. I reckon WENN is not destined to be heard on two translators (99.1 and 100.1) forever.

As far as I know, all the existing translators in town are spoken for other than one of those… But then there's the new CP for one on 92.7 that says it's for WQOH in Irondale.

The only translators that Summit Media has in Birmingham (that I'm aware of, anyhow) are 99.1, 100.1, and 107.3, so I imagine one of those frequencies (probably 99.1 or 100.1) will be relaying one of WZZK's HD channels; 107.3 is already rebroadcasting WEZZ HD2. Recnet shows W261BX (100.1) as rebroadcasting WZZK-FM, not WENN, so 100.1 could very well end up being a rebroadcast of WZZK-FM HD2/3.

Recnet shows W256CD (99.1) as rebroadcasting WAGG, which hasn't been the case thus far, because 99.1 was originally rebroadcasting WENN when it first went on the air.

We'll have to see what the fallout is, if any, with 97.3, 97.7, 99.1 and 100.1 after Christmas, as far as which translators are rebroadcasting which stations.

I'm not entirely sure, but I believe that 92.7 translator is owned by the same Catholic group who owns WQOH, so 92.7 will probably be a rebroadcast of WQOH.

oh yeah, forgot about their translator at 102.1. Thx, Charles. :)
