Chicago's Active Rocker 94.7 The Zone (WZZN) just flipped to oldies (Part Satellite) as "The True Oldies Channel" at noon. This is 94.7's 9th format in 10 years.

Talk (Simmulcast with WLS-AM)
Christmas (For the 1995 season)
Country (WKXK "94.7 Kicks Country 1995-1997)
Classic Rock (WXCD "CD 94.7" 1997-2000)
80s* (WZZN "94.7 The Zone 2000-Spring 2001)
80s & More* (WZZN "94.7 The Zone" Spring 2001-Summer 2001)
Hot AC* (WZZN "94.7 The Zone" Summer 2001-Fall 2001)
Alternative* (Fall 2001-Spring 2003)
Active Rock* (Spring 2003-Today)
and now oldies (Formats with a * by them indicate that it was under the "94.7 The Zone" name/calls)

Looking at the frequency's history, it'll probably last 2-3 years. But with WJMK going Jack back in June I think its filling a very major void. And the playlist is amazing compared to most oldies stations these days. I missed hearing a lot of these songs.

Currently it is running locally and commercial free. The launch material was produced by the satellite service. It will be Satellite from True Oldies Channel all times except mornings, afternoons and Saturday nights.

I guess I have a little piece of chicago radio history when you taped 94.7 the zone as it is no more....This is becoming a trend in the country where the rock stations are going....ex: 97.1 the eagle in dallas, lazer 103, klol in houston.

i wonder how well this station is going to do.
