With 94.7 flipping to an oldies format today seemingly beating WCKG to the punch which was suppose to flip around Thanksgiving to oldies rumor had, I wonder what Infinity will do with all the oldies 104.3 WJMK jocks that are only on the internet now. Some people think that was just a place for them until they flipped WCKG or until they figured out what to do with them. What is the likelyhood of them being let go now from their contracts and maybe ending up on 94.7. I think the WLS-FM thing would work really well for this signal and if they could somehow get a Greg Brown, Fred Winston, or Dick Biondi they would have instant credibility as an oldies station and the dj's that know the forma well. Maybe aven bring John Records Landecker back in the mornings, it would be just like WLS-AM in the 70's only with FM sound. I hope they also extend there play lists some because there is plenty of great music from the 50's, 60's, and 70's there is no reason why a song should ever repeat throughout the coarse of a day.

There's nothing to say Infinity can't still go oldies, although ABC certainly trumped them. It'd be interesting to see if Infinity accelerated their plans and jumped into an oldies war by improving on what ABC's got to offer so far. It's pretty obvious that having oldies on WJMK HD-2 presents no threat to ZZN, so if Infinity was to make a move, I think sooner would be better before ABC sews up the dedicated oldies listeners. I'm thinking ABC went satellite on the oldies format just to get the jump on everyone else... then work on developing it as they go. Then again, maybe they'll do nothing and sell the cluster.

Damn, I don't get to read these things during the day. It'll be interesting to see all the discussion that develops over this by tomorrow afternoon. lol

billing / market value

Something for the experts... the Zone wasn't billing all that great, might this be a move to improve on revenue and bring the value of the station up in anticipation of a sale? Not sure how much impact that would have, but it was just a thought that occurred to me now.

it was a rock station like all in Chicago with less than a 2 share so it was solely about billing. Stations dont have to have huge ratings to still bill well, the moment theyre not billing they're history. The zone's billing had to be crap compared to oldies, even sat delivered oldies, difference of audiences, male 25-54 demo is much more lucrative than male 18-34 demo and let's be honest the Zone with their rock hard stance was a 12-24 male station, no moolah there my friends comparitively.

Re: billing / market value

Look at it this way. Most people in the oldies demo (other than radio people) don't know or care if a station is satellite programmed. ABC can offer a unique format (at this point anyway) and save a ton of cash on payroll!

Not true...

well it HAS to be cheaper to run scott shannon's bird all day than paying an airstaff....

IMO...The oldies demo values personalities MORE than any other audience...they are used to "boss jocks" and whatnot...they can see thru 24 hours a day of scott shannon...when they first heard Dex Card spin the records
