WZZQ GM & PD-Mid to late 90s

I worked part-time at ZZQ in 96 and 97 and have forgotten who the GM was and who was hired on at that time as PD. Anyone remember?

Was it Jim Stone yet? I know he was PD in '97 for a fact. And I think he was GM by '99, wasn't he?

Wasn't there an owner or GM or somebody big at ZZQ who spent some time in jail?

He ran the station from behind bars or something?

If somebody has the info to fill in the cracks on my weak recollection, lay it on me...

:-\

The owner was convicted of some sex crimes against minors in Missouri and spent time in prison for it. The FCC found not just that he was operating the station from behind bars, but that he tried to cover it up. For that, they yanked his licenses.

The owner was convicted of child molestation. It was rumored that he had a preference for teen boys. He was not the GM. The GM was previousely GM at WXTZ in Indianapolis.

Rice owned three stations...two AMs at 640 (then WBOW) and 1230 (then WBUZ) and one FM (WZZQ) at 107.5.

Right before the stations were forced off, 107.5 was one of the top-rated stations in Terre Haute, and I believe, the highest rated alternative rock station in the country.

Needless to say, a major hole was left in the market after the stations, WZZQ in particular, were shut down.

From what I understand, 107.5 has been reallotted as non-commercial. There's a lot of speculation that Indiana State University will get the frequency and move their current modern rock format on WISU to 107.5 making 89.7 a NPR talk/fine arts station.

As far as I know, no final decision has been made as to who gets 107.5 or the 640 and 1230 frequencies.

Thanks for the PD info, ie: Jim Stone. I finally remembered that the GM during the mid 90s was Ken Brown. Thanks again!
