30 minutes I've got it recorded. Somewhere.. I'll start looking for it! It may be on the bay radio museum website too.

Did you find then yet??

I realized, after you posted the above, you were asking for the start of KFRC when they signed on X100, not air checks in general.

No, when X-100 became FM KFRC FM.

Remember that redundancy? They kept referring the station as,
FM KFRC FM.

Anyway I remember that continuous loop.

Ahhhh OK, I had that completely backwards.

X-100 wasn't a bad station. It's just they were going up against powerhouse KMEL that had a playlist of RAP/Club music while X-100 was playing Richard Marx. As a male youth I would be laughed at playing Richard Marx at a party.

Urban music was the "in Thing" in the late 80's and KMEL had that sewn up.

Why would they? The calls are just something they say really fast at the top of the hour anyway. Hell they could move the KFRC heritage calls down to 99.7 just to entertain us radio folks once an hour. Guess it would make the KFRC calls come full circle to be back on a CHR/Top 40 outlet

That's true..

Just have CBS move the KCBS-FM calls to SF and put new calls on Jack FM in LA

Someone else might get the KFRC calls

I have wondered why CBS never bothered to change the KFRC calls on 106.9. Hell, you could even put the KFRC calls on Jack FM in LA, I bet very few people in so cal know the history behind those calls. I guess the fact that CBS hasnt bothered to change the calls of 106.9 just shows that most people in the Bay Area have forgotten about KFRC

Can CBS bring back the KXXX Calls??

The KXXX call letters now belong to a radio station in Kansas, so I doubt CBS Radio will bring them back to San Francisco.

Most people have forgotten, or just don't care. There's a chance CBS hasn't changed the call letters for 106.9 because they think "KFRC" might be useful someday - so keeping them prevents others from using them.

They were there when X-100 launched, too. The station in Kansas was KXXX, and X-100 was KXXX-FM. The ownership has changed hands a few times at the station in Kansas, but, so long as the current owners were okay with it, KXXX-FM could be used anywhere a "K" call would be allowed!
