Xcelite's ruining the Greenie!

Is anyone here following this?

http://www.radioworld.com/article/don’t-touch-my-greenie/24502

I tried to register my discontent with the Apex Tool Group today, only to find that all of their web site "contact forms" and e-mail forms were either broken or intentionally disabled. I've sent an e-mail to John Bisset who says he's successfully e-mailed them.

It might be time to stock up on the original Greenies, if you can find them, just in case!

I see yet another boutique, niche' market here - vintage greenies! Originals will probably be selling for north of $50/each on Ebay in the near future... ;D

The screwdriver in question is the Xcelite P-3322, which is a longer blade than the "greenie" in the PS-88 screwdriver set, P-3321.

P-3321, if long enough, might still have the smaller shaft. I see the PS-88 sets are in the $30 range now.

If the P-3322 always has the pocket-clip, and the clip is a requirement. I'd suspect any good machine shop with a small lathe would be glad to turn down the shaft for a whole lot less than $50 each.

We bought some greenies last year, and they were of the new design. (as shown in the photo in the linked article) This change has been around for awhile.

They really haven't caused any problems for us; anything we tweak with them is behind a solid panel (no access holes); once you open the panel the entire control is accessible.

The new greenies work with some gear, some gear has issues. Having a machinist turn the new ones down with a lathe is most practical when needed. But there's no Greenies like classic Greenies. So stockpile thy classic Greenies while ye may.

Typical! They always have to f*ck with the design. They can't just leave well enough alone.
No, some 'guru' of the design department has to justify his or her position by reinventing the wheel and tweaking something
ever so slightly that the new design seems radical and 'improved' - but in reality is just another annoyance to the end user.

It's hard enough buying Xcelite tools here as it is. I had to get a friend in Houston to purchase some of the P-3321 drivers for
me and post them down, as most online tool suppliers in the US either won't ship to New Zealand, or if they did, they wanted to charge me ridiculous amounts of money for shipping for half a dozen tiddly screwdrivers!

Maybe it's time to get some more while I still can.

Mouser had 368 of the old style in stock until I took 20 of them @ $2.01/ea.

Just drill out the opening on the piece of equipment in question so the new shaft fits through. Don't you guys ever think outside the box? ;D
