XDS Satellite Issues

We're perplexed....and looking for anyone else who's experienced this....

Suddenly this summer, our entire fleet of XDS receivers -- Cumulus, Premiere, Max, Wegner -- would fail together. Happened regularly around 6:30p at night. They would go down for 5 to 20 minutes and come back up.

We were told by someone within industry to put a filter to eliminate noise/interference. We've checked with local cell companies about the usage of a new band that sometimes interferes.

This has worked....but we still have intermittent outages....for seemingly no reason....like one this morning for 2-3 minutes.

Has anyone inexperienced this? Any suggestions?

Since its all receiver's i would suspect a problem with your dish/signal level or your LNB power.
Most common is for wasps or other bugs to build a nest in the feed horn and decrease the signal collected.

You should have an "AWACS" filter, which filters out airborne military radar...

Military radar operates at one side of the C-band satellite channels, while some airborne altimeters operate at the other side. This filter mounts directly at the dish on the LNB.

While you are up there, can't hurt to check for bugs. Usually there is a plastic insert at the opening of the LNB, but the sun will eat it up after a number of years. We've used the cover to the little round boxes Scotch black tape comes in as a replacement.

I've got a Cumulus XDS and a Premiere XDS and have had no problems

A couple of ideas...
Are you using a distribution amp to split the satellite signal? If so, try removing it.
Or, change which receiver is providing power to the LNB.
Or, I've had problems with birds getting in an open feed horn. Tape a garbage bag around the feed horn for testing.

What are you signal levels when the receivers are happy?

Great feedback!

When the receivers are happy, we have to pad down the receivers -- they have too much signal.

No birds or insects. We have a filter.

On an outage last week, it appeared on our spectrum analyzer that the noise was above 200.

One thought today was replacing the cable to the dish to further limit the noise.

Any ideas would be helpful. This is perplexing.
