XEG 1050AM Monterrey Question

***La Ranchera de Monterrey***

I can pull in XEG in Victoria, Austin, San Antonio, Houston, etc at night with great clarity.

However, I was driving back from Laredo at 2:30am and could not pull it in without also receiving a ton of static.

Why am I able to pull it in South/Central/East Texas and not pull it in from nearby Laredo?

What's up with the lobe?

My suspicion is that its groundwave is getting battered by its skywave at that location. There's a certain distance from the transmitter where the groundwave and the skywave cancel each other out. Once you get further away, you no longer get the groundwave and are just getting skywave.

I live in central Missouri about 100 miles from St. Louis, and I can't get KMOX 1120 clearly at night, but it was clear as a bell when I lived in Kansas City, about 140 miles further west. I also got KMOX clearly in Tulsa, about 400 miles from the transmitter site.

That's a great explanation, Kent. I appreciate it.

I live about 120 miles from the WOAI tower and I have trouble pulling it in at night, yet when I lived in Baton Rouge, it would come in very clear at night. Just another example of groundwave cancelling out skywave.

Sounds about Right, WOAI blasts Texoma as does KMOX, WWL, etc. However Nearby WBAP and KRLD can get iffy at night, 'BAP moreso than KRLD.
