In English or Spanish? If in Spanish, what genre of oldies? Now (since yesterday) is RASA 1470 AM, with the format of Oldies from the 50's to 90's
The "oldies" go back further than that. They were playing classical last night. Now (since yesterday) is RASA 1470 AM, with the format of Oldies from the 50's to 90's
Wolfman Jack's coyote sfx no longer available!Ok, I really like this one a lot! Radio Immortal, Rasa 1470 has too much effort put into it with imaging, liners, to be a placeholder format. With a little help from Shazam here are the first songs I heard when tuning in.
Boney M - Rasputin
Andrea Bocelli - Rapsodia
Fausto Pepetti - Strangers in the night (instrumental version)
Henry Mancini - It had better be tonight
Roberto Perera - Erotica (Instrumental)
John Lennon - Move over Ms. L
Guy Mitchell - Singing the blues
Kansas - The Wall
Phil Collins - I wish it would rain
Abba - Dancing Queen
Glenn Miller - I've got a heart filled with love
One question: What's up with the sound of a rooster crowing that keeps popping up now and then?
Both XERCN 1470 from Tijuana BC and XED 1050 from Mexicali BC are sharing the same music blocks as the XENK-AM 620 station, after its sale. Although they were affiliated with this radio group such as RASA, administratively they are other operators.
The sound of the rooster is a tribute for being the pioneer in transmitting music in English in Mexico.
Only from 7 to 10 am and from 1 to 3 pmAnd it's not all-music. Right now (730am PST) there's a lot of talk in Spanish.

So now, Mexicali has two competing stations for English language Oldies, 940 XEMMM and 1050 XED?Both XERCN 1470 from Tijuana BC and XED 1050 from Mexicali BC are sharing the same music blocks as the XENK-AM 620 station, after its sale. Couldn't sleep well late last night. So I put on a pair of headphones and dialed across the AM band, landed on 1470 and indeed it's probably the most eclectic music mix imaginable. So, and I'm asking this question sincerely---I honestly don't know the answer---is there a market for a station that plays:
Boney M - Rasputin
Andrea Bocelli - Rapsodia
Fausto Pepetti - Strangers in the night (instrumental version)
Henry Mancini - It had better be tonight
Roberto Perera - Erotica (Instrumental)
John Lennon - Move over Ms. L
Guy Mitchell - Singing the blues
Kansas - The Wall
Phil Collins - I wish it would rain
Abba - Dancing Queen
Glenn Miller - I've got a heart filled with love
...on AM radio in Mexico? Is this a mix, a sound that has a cultural appeal?
XENK dates back to the mid-1950's as a station that always played "Música que llegó para quedarse" (Music that came to stay).Note: 1470 AM Tijuana/San Diego is *not* a direct simulcast of XENK-AM Radio 620 CadenaRasa.
As mentioned by exloguero above, they may be "sharing the same music blocks".
XENK-AM's presentation is oldies/classic hits 60s/70s/80s.

According to Wikipedia, XENK was a pioneer in the transmission of English language music in Mexico, and were first to play The Beatles in Latin America in 1962. Not sure if true, being Wiki as the source. Was the format Top 40?XENK dates back to the mid-1950's as a station that always played "Música que llegó para quedarse" (Music that came to stay).
Speaking of Beatles music on the air in Latin America, and parts of Asia in the early 60's, I read several years ago that at this time certain stations in some countries such as Argentina were still only capable of playing 78 RPM records. So EMI, the Beatles label (and parent company of Capitol records in the US) had special 10" shellac discs made for Argentina and possibly the Philippines of a few of the Beatles earliest big hits. If you can find them these 78s are supposedly worth to collectors upwards of 1500 to 2000 dollars.According to Wikipedia, XENK was a pioneer in the transmission of English language music in Mexico, and were first to play The Beatles in Latin America in 1962.
