Brother Stair's organization still buys time on stations like KAAY. I can't imagine who actually listens to this dead molester but somebody must

Stair’s Overcomer Ministry still buys a considerable amount of time on shortwave radio, though total hours are way down since Stair’s death two years ago. Money may be slowly drying up. If that dollar stream comes to an end, shortwave operations like WRMI and WBCQ might find themselves in major fnancial trouble, which is likely already the case.

Of course, who knows. You can still hear Gene Scott droning away on WWCR, and he died 18 years ago.

I think the time for overnight religious programming on WCKY, which at one time included Brother Stair, has been trimmed over the years. It used to come on right at 1 a.m., regardless of format. Last I checked, a while ago granted, they were airing sports well after 1.

I can remember the religious programming starting earlier than 1am, and as early as 9pm on Sundays. Years ago, the minute afternoon drive was over, WLAC was your fire and brimstone station. They started at 4pm or so on Sundays.

Oh yeah, I'm talking maybe mid-2010s and probably several years before that in my experience. A few times, I tuned in specifically to hear the switch. Sports (or oldies), legal ID, straight into Brother Stair or whatever other brokered programming.

I remember the early 1970s, listening in southern Iowa, right in that strong north-south pattern, when KAAY would switch to religion from 6:30 pm to 8 pm, then switch back to Top 40 at 8 pm followed by the famous "Beaker Street" following at 11 pm.

It wasn't that tower, it was for XHEPR-FM that belonged to radiorama, the 800 tower was at this address: 31°41'43.9"N 106°23'01.1"W

Same with where I worked. KREI Farmington, MO. When doing local sports during the night pattern, the play-by-play crew would often hear XEROK instead of us, especially for away games.

I also worked at KREI for about six months in 1988, about 18 months after they had gone 24 hours. Before that, they were a daytimer only, when I was still in high school. At that time, I would often get up before 6am and turn on my radio to wait for them to sign on and I could hear that Mexican station loud and clear. It was so powerful that, even after KREI signed on, I couldn't hear them until at least sunrise. Even then, sometimes XEROK would still be heard in the background after KREI increased their daytime signal to 1,000 watts at sunrise.

Garner Ted is who I remember. IIRC in the late 60s, KAAY stopped the music at 9 or 10pm. Followed by Garner Ted for an hour and then Beeker Street.

As for XEROK, I could hear it as often as not here in the Chicago area. Usually with CKLW or Bonaire nulled.
