Clear Channel Sells Three To New Company
In San Diego

Finest City Broadcasting, a new company under the direction of former Clear Channel/San Diego VP/Market Manager Mike Glickenhaus, has entered into an agreement with Comunicacion Xersa to take over programming, sales and marketing for three stations currently controlled by Clear Channel: XTRA-FM (91X), XHTZ (Z90) and XHRM (Magic 92.5). Glickenhaus will serve as President/CEO of the new entity.

"This opportunity with these three Class C 100,000-watt stations with some of the best signals in the market and heritage format brands in my hometown is a career dream come true," Glickenhaus says. "We are in the process of building a 'dream team' of radio pros with tremendous experience and San Diego market equity.

"Finest City Broadcasting will be intensely focused on a commitment to the listeners and advertisers in the community we live in with a group of people who have a driving passion for both radio and America's Finest City."

Now, who gets 99.3? Rumor has it that it goes to PRISA, along with 690.

Breaking: Laird allegedly takes Payola

That story has been bumped at R&R for a far more interesting one:

Sony/BMG admitted today to New York Attorney General Elliot Spitzer that they made illegal payments to radio station employees in exchange for airplay.

Among the people named in the article: KHTS's Diana Laird, who allegedly took a flat screen TV from Epic Records and allegedly hid the gift by using fictious "contest winner" names and claiming the TV was a prize awarded to a listener.

Don't mess with Elliot Spitzer.

When you click on the link, that's the story you get. Glickenhaus's purchase has been completely bumped by this and other associated stories.

[edit]Update
The Glickenhouse deal is here: rewritten the story that named Laird and others and is also running an interview with another programmer named earlier who PDF document from the New York Attorney General's office. Spitzer's press release is here.

Having been one of a few who helped Diana Laird get into CHR radio (KGGI) when she had ZERO knowledge of it (nothing has changed), I can only say I can't wait until she she sees a jail cell. What comes around, goes around. Oh Diana, can Rick Eytcheson save you now?

And the winner is?

Interesting!

Because:
91X stays in the family in a way, since Mike Glickenhaus will likely preserve the format that he has already overseen previously. 91X saved!

Z90 is also a winner! The format stays. And, maybe even could go head to head against Channel 933 for the CHR poslition.

Magic92.5 stays paired with Z90, as it should be!

And all three are now in situations very similar to what they were before CC too them over, since once again, they are now in local hands.

This is a very good development indeed!

Now, about Oldies in America's Finest (excluding Mayoral leadership, water sewage, price of housing, low paying jobs) City?

well, if 99.3 goes to PRISA, the format will go Spanish.

No big loss to me (maybe a gain for Spanish fans, of course), it's been Spanish before...

It's what happens to the oldies format in San Diego, IMO.

Please don't hold back on your feelings!

Ouch! As another person who questions Diana's credentials and motives, I too wonder what will happen to her, but certainly don't wish ill upon her. Yes, she has no idea what she's doing with 933, certainly didn't do squat for KGB in her operations role, and killed Z-90 back when CC was still supposed to nurture and care for it. I certainly wish her well, because she's got a long road ahead of her here.
