Loved the morning show Friday. Haven 't heard some of those tunes in years............Nice!!!

???

maybe some more details for those of us who didn't think we'd miss anything?

What, did they play some 80's hair-metal or something to compete with JRR?

Just to clarify and keep Chris_rose off my a&%, I only caught about 10-15 minutes riding into work. They were doing the "Gayest show ever" to commemorate Gay and Lesbian something or another. Anyways, I heard tunes from Rupaul, gloria gaynor and some other disco stuff.

Perhaps someone who actually listened longer or even listens to XL 106.7 can elaborate. My point was this for all you bashers of radio:

It was nice to hear songs you normally don't hear on the radio. Get over yourself. Kudos to XL for doing something different. Right or wrong, no matter what the reason, it was different and re-freshing.

I would rather hear a hair/metal station on the radio 24/7 mixed with todays.. enough of the alt 90s crap! (not sirus)

;D I'd rather hear "dead air"

agreed...i mean, really...what good is hearing these songs if you don't hear something "wow-ish" on a regular basis...like the saturday night hair-crap-metal show on JRR...i personally dont care for that music (im sure the show itself is fine), but how much credit can you give a station for "trying something new", when they bury that "something new" in a 3 hour weekend slot..."something new" should be more than just a 3 hour show, or playing some gay songs for the beginning of gay days...great, you heard RuPaul...now when will you hear it again?

man, what a tough crowd. All I see and hear is about how awful radio is, same songs, same boring programs. I was just trying to highlight something different I heard. Judging by the responses on this thread, many of you either hate XL 106.7, don't care (the dead air comment), that was cute, or just plain apathy.
Geez.................... sorry I ever started a lame --- thread like this.................

its not lame dude...its just that things like this make you think...why cant they play stuff like this more often? thats what i was getting at! especially in the top 40 format...the music hasn't evolved in 10 years solid!...it baffles me that the top 40 stations can easily shy away from playing hits from the late 90's/early decade! can anyone tell me that the party rap songs from back then sound different than the party rap songs from today? even that rupaul song! it was probably "supermodel"...and for what its worth, i thought it was a great song at the time...songs like that SHOULD be played...thats my point...its not that they shouldnt play the hits...its the stuff they play repeatedly that AREN'T the hits that are the concern...in a way, its the same for JRR...its not the lack of new music they're playing...i see their logs...i see the new songs that are being played...its enough...but its the songs that AREN'T current hits that they are playing over and over and over...the alternative stuff...songs that were big 5-7 years ago...those are the songs that seem nowhere to be found!...

i do want to add that JRR is doing something cool this weekend...playing back to back songs from artists...it gives them a reason to play these songs they don't normally play...take a listen if you can...and tell me why some of these "deep" cuts can't be played more regularly...am i making sense?

the disco stuff you CAN hear on the radio...Disco has to be one of the reasons that the format isn't called "oldies" anymore by many...Classic Hits play all the Disco hits...

whew, thanks man! for a while there, i thought i was crazy. I agree with your assessment. And for a guy that worked for many years at WJRR, I sure am glad they are adding some neat elements to the weekend programming. Good to hear. I agree with your other points. Thanks again.

Speaking of good lost music, I was listening to XL during their Throwback Memorial Day Weekend. Loved it!

Also, the addition of Andy Kovacs from FLZ with pure dance music on Saturday nights & DJ X breaks - Me likes!
