XM 60s on 6

When did they start playing some of todays current songs on 60s on 6? It sounds different but ok. At first I thought the station change to 20 on 20 but it was still 60s with just a little piece of one of todays songs. I like it as Im in the generation that likes todays current music and some of the 60s music is good also. Only thing they have to get rid of is when they play some old oldies station from back in the day. They say the weather for that current day example Orlando, FL. To much talk during when they do this and I don't care about what the weather was back in the day for a city I am not living in.

I have never heard a new song on the 60s. And you are in the minority. Most of us love the WLS type flashbacks on Fridays. When they basically play airchecks of 60s stations from the actual 60s.

I have to agree with smashedcdon this one; I grew up in the St. Petersburg/Tampa area and enjoyed every second on last nights re-creation of WLCY - 1380.

If they only had some old air checks of the "Weather Chick", the original poster might have enjoyed even the old weather forecast. She was only on dirying the day with Roy Nilson - the Shy Guy and they would banter back and forth and she would give the forecast in her Marilyn Monroe sound alike sultry voice; almost made a simple forecast sound XXX rated!! :)

The only flaw I heard last night was Terry Young kept mentioning the Armwood cheerleaders and Armwood high school wasn't even built until the late 70's or early 80's. (maybe later).

Everything else, the news, weather and ads for businesses that have long since closed were very interesting.

For anyone who was a teenager in the mid 60's to early 70's like me, it's nice when they re-create a station that you had listened to then, the whole enchilada, not just the jingles and songs in a vacum.

Hi Ken,

Didn't mean to ignore the other part of your post.

I thought I had heard a sound bit from a newer song several weeks ago, but unfortunately, I was driving in some bad traffic and didn't get to look at the display or to hear everything, so I just thought maybe I was going crazy; but I had only heard that once.

Did they play a whole current song or just part?

Was there any type of tie in to the 60's ?(i.e. "Oh What a Night, Sept 1963" by the Four Seasons, was recorded in the 70's but is about the 60's)

Have you figured out a pattern to this or what time of the day it mostly happens and I'll try to pay attention next time! :)

I know some of the other channels occassionally go out of their decades. I never used to listen to channel 5 until I went to the XM fan site (411) where you can input song titles or artists and noticed that channel 5 does play some music from the early 60's.... so I imagine some of the other XM channels do as well.

btw- if a moderator is reading this; have you guys considered a spell check for people like me who either can't spell or type too fast? (or both!)

I took a look at my last post and yes, and yes... I can spell the word "during", don't know what I was thinking when I misspelled it. Maybe the
WLCY's Weather Chick! :)

So no one hears when they play a small piece of a new current song after or before when they play the #1 song from the 60s.

Now that I've re-read your post, I see where it's done after a countdown, I will have to pay more attention to the countdowns when I listen to channel 6 and see if they do that all the time and if there is some type of tie in to the previously played #1 song from the 60's.

It really doesn't have any tie. They only play a small piece of todays current song. Some songs that I have heard:

Kiss Kiss - T-Pain
Shawty -T-Pain
Clumsy - Fergie
Tattoo - Jordin Sparks
Good Life- Kanye West
Bubbly- Colibie Cailat

and some others

they arent playing the songs. maybe snipets as background music. but not the songs themselves. I have yet to hear anything current on the 60s today.

I heard something by Alicia Keyes yesterday. I had to look twice to make sure I was still on the 60's channel. Personally, I don't like it at all. When I'm back in the 60's who wants to get brought up to "reality" by some out of character song?

Actually they mock the current hit when they play a part of it. In a way it's a funny bit and reminds me why I listen to " '60's on 6".

They don't really mock it. The person behind the mic on 60s on 6 tells you if you want to hear that song turn to 20 on 20, 68 The Heat, or The Hitlist, etc.

I didn't grow up there, and enjoyed it equally as well. Always look forward to Friday afternoon's 'station recreation' on ch. 6. Great stuff, and Terry Young is an awesome personality for the job!

Nurse Jeff and I like Phlash Phelps the best...he sounds a lot like the legendary Bill Gardner (WIBG, KVIL, KOOL! Terry The Motor Mouth Young is a classic, but he could use a couple more wind screens as those P's really POP! We guess the PD (Pat Clarke) has to do an airshift to keep his toes in the water, but he really doesn't sound like he belongs on XM6. His voice and delivery are not the typical AM Top 40; he constantly steps on vocals; and plays songs that don't fit the format: Goin' Down by The Monkees. We look forward to the Friday re-creations, even though they've featured some rather lame stations lately. This week's (2/22) Blast From The Past...WKNR Keener 13 in Dee-troit.

I agree and think this has to be a "labor of love"; it must be time consuming and require at least some research to get this done as well as it is done.
