If the XM and Sirius merger goes thru and because reality; which shock jocks will get to kept their jobs, which ones will get shown the door, which ones will quit/retire?

You have Howard Stern,Bubba The Love Sponge and Scott Farrell(Sports Talk Shock Jock) on Sirius. XM has Ron & Fez, Opie & Anthony,Lex & Terry.

Let the debate begin.

Even though I am NOT into shock jock radio, my guess...

when all the dust settles, it's probably gonna be Stern, Farrell, and O&A...I don't believe that any of the others have enough of a pull or a draw as the three that I just mentioned.....

Too soon to tell...let's not try to read TOO MUCH into who and when at this point.. ???

Two 60s channels, two 70s, two 80s, which Dj's will be fired?

I highly doubt Sirius will can their famous MTV jocks from their 80s channel, vs who/what at XM?
Also, Sirius wont be dropping Cousin Brucie from their 60s channel, and I doubt Norm N Nite from Sirius Gold. XM has the highly popular Phlash Phelps on their 60s channel , he has proven to be one of XM's highest rated jocks, so they would be foolish to let him go .

I think it'd be great if the two companies keep 2 stations from each decade. If they want to run one of those two channels form each decade on the cheap here's an idea that many of us will love:
One of the 70s channels will include some of the best jocks of that era live 24/7 while the other one will run old countdowns of American Top 40, and even some of the local countdowns (like WABC, WLS, Boss Radio, etc.).
Same deal with the 80s decade: Have one of the channels combine all those bigger then life jingles and liners from Z-100 and other famous CHRs, throw in some top notch talent, while the other 80s channel will feature nonstop countdowns from Casey and Rick Dees, and even old MTV countdowns (I know I know, they aired on TV, but would still be cool to listen to on the radio), and you could even run Backtraxx USA on it. I also think you could run other specialty programs on the other 80s channel, like mixshows on the weekends featuring the music of Hot 103/97, Power 96, DRQ of the early 80s, Power 106, etc.
I mean really, there's no need to can some of the decades channels - it just leaves more room for creativity when you have two 60s/70s/80s channels rather then one :)

I also think that with the upcoming merger XM and Sirius will continue to grow as far as the number of subcribers are concerned and as such I don't think any of the shock jocks should be let go. It's just that some of these jocks may need to think more outside the box and present their shows in a more unique sort of way so as to differentiate themselves from one another. Males in particular love listening to jocks who are bold, daring, and yet at the same time they can relate to. After all, shock value radio sounds best when its untamed and uncensored, and only satellite radio nowadays can give us this brand of radio.

It could play out something like:

6-11/ Howard Stern
11-3/ Bubba
3-7/ Opie and Anthony
7-10/ Ron and Fez
10-1/ Farell on the bench
1-6/ (not sure, perhaps a friend of one of the shows, a la "Lazlow")

I TOLD YOU SO!!!

When both Sirius and XM first came on the air a few years ago I predicted on this board that eventually they would merge. Now here is my second prediction.
Now that the FCC has given its blessing, this one satellite company will cut staff and programs and raise your monthly bill. Some of those stations you currently get for free will be a thing of the past. And, some years down the road, satellite radio will sound just like terrestrial radio does today.

The standard practice is when a new owner comes in and purchases a group of stations, or in this case merge, there are layoffs. I'm sure this will happen with Sirius and XM.

This new company wants to make money for its shareholders and I can almost guarantee that the stations you hear for free on satellite radio will end up costing subscribers money; either by adding commercials or increasing the cost of such a service. Therefore I agree with your prediction.

Sirius/XM BETTER NOT pull a shcedule where they only run Stern once in the day!

One of the reasons I like Howard 100 is that I don't have to be up at the crack of dawn to hear the show. I can tune in at different points during the day.

I like Howard 100 the way it is now. If they change THAT, I will be less likely to renew.

Based on the suggested schedules I've seen in this thread, it seems like you guys want Howard 100 to sound more like many of those failed cheezy FM talk stations.

Based on stuff karmazin said on stern's show there won't be any program merging anytime soon.
He threw out some time frames but I don't recall those but initially they'll offer channels from the service you don't get for a price.

So that seems smart for them. You continue paying for your primary service but you pay extra for limited channels from the other. Thats a price increase, IMO and its BS too cause they could immediately decide on a merged channel lineup and bounce the same channels off both sats, tada, but they are pretending its going to take so much time to get the same programming on both.

Matters not to me, I don't want anything from X.

At some point he said they'd begin eliminating duplicates but they were gonna be careful not to eliminate channels that maybe had low but passionate listernership. mentioned Sirius Disorder as an examnple.

mel said howard will be on xm in september or october

i cant wait to have O&A plus howard stern i cant stand Ron & fez

Bubba is stomping his feet about "if O&A stay, I'm out" and with Mel's interview on O&A yesterday, he didn't exactly put up much of a fight about keeping/defending Bubba. O&A realistically love afternoon drive, but I'd rather hear them after Howard. If Bubba leaves/gets fired, I'd rather see a Howard 6-11 O&A 11-3. I don't know if that would bee too much of the same back-to-back, but it's my personal preference. O&A wouldn't like it because mid-days aren't their market.

IMHO, shock jocks caused this whole mess and the merger. If neither service had hired jocks at such exhorbitent amounts, they both would be closer to making a profit, and perhaps both could have survived independently. Bad management decisions to try and buy subscribers.

this is my question to you - were you one of the people who was rejoicing when Sirius hired Stern and XM hired O&A (i remember when Sirius hired Stern - he did some kind of stunt where he gave out satellite radios to people in Union Square, like to encourage them to subscribe just because HE was going to be on there...)? ;) ;)

Stern will be definatly staying, same with bubba..O&A will probably be shown the door, as they've burned a few bridges

wrong O&A will be resigned they where in the press release of post merger programming

i could see howard giving them afternoons 3pm-7pm bubba stinks
