I wish Sirius had a 40's channel like XM does!!
Sirius used to have a good standards channel. At least that's what someone told me.
For some reason, I have this memory that the person who told me that was the poster Chuck. I found his site, or whoever's site it was, with a search for something I don't even remember now. But the radio station had the greatest playlist.
I was watching a movie over the weekend about World War II.

There's no soundtrack listing, but this guy was romancing a woman and had music playing. Good stuff. Like the old days of Stardust.
It was probably me. I used to have Sirius in my previous car. At the time, I actually liked their standards format which I think they called "Standards 73" or something like that, reflecting the channel number. That was at least two years ago. I understand they have changed it quite a bit, but I don't know what it is like now.
When I got a new car, and it came with XM. I do not like their standards format at all. To me, it is quite boring, and nearly puts me to sleep. There is a time and place for that, but sleeping while driving my car is not on the top of my list of things to do.
I find that I prefer XM's "Fifties on Five" channel, which actually plays a lot of music that goes well into the 60's. Some of the selections are better than others. Unfortunately, they get off into some really odd stuff at the most inopportune times. For instance, they have a "Rock-a-Billy" show at 5:00 Central Time (drive time for a lot of us). For me, a little Rock-A-Billy goes a long way, and I just can't handle an hour of it. If I'm somewhere that satellite radio is my only choice, that program makes me start to push buttons. NPR frequently wins if I can't pick up my own station.
Maybe it is just me, but I like radio stations to be a fairly consistent format, at least during hours of peak usage.
If you want a list of songs, we actually share our stations' play list with anyone who is interested. We try to keep it up to date, but I have to admit that is a lower priority than programming the station. You can view it at
www.kzqx.com , and click on the "What's Playing" link. Of course, you can listen too....
