XM Audio...

Is it me or does XM audio quality seem horrible?

If you are using the receivers FM transmitter it will. It has very poor specs. Try connecting a cable direct to the stereo, the best way to get quality sound. But then again, in today's digital world there really isn't much quality in sound.

I was listening to it on the way back, my brothers car has it all built in. I thought it'd sound better than that.? Just sounds like a low quality mp3 file.

Yup! That's why I'm not wasting my money. I'd rather use Pandora on my iPhone.

I dunno Walt,but my Mp3s sound good at 320Kb...
XM sounds like a swirly low bitrate maybe 16Kbs mp3 to me.
They have TOO MANY CHANNELS!And have stretched their bandwidth to the point its unbearable back when sirius and xm were rivals. If you have been a fan of Sirius or XM ,you know the audio
quality goes up and down like a rollercoaster minus the weeeee.

XM has definitely been sounding progressively worse over the last couple weeks. Worst of all: 20 on 20. Horribly processed, mono signal, and the gain sounds like it's down at least -6db.

This has been discussed previously....including by me. I'd have dropped it a long time ago, but Mrs. Cyberdad likes Oprah and a couple of the other talk channels. And I will admit I like listening to Fox, CNN, and MSNBC on long drives, as well as live sports pbp.
But listening to music can be downright painful.

Anyway, there is a way to hear XM in good quality audio. Download the smartphone app. Of course, if you do that...or if you listen online...you now have a new problem. Sirius/XM's timers will keep booting you off. On top of that, you won't get a number of channels that you've already paid for. Such as the aforementioned live pbp sports.
