XM in Hawaii?

Can you receive XM in Hawaii? I asked my brother if he gets it in his GM vehicle, but he says it's not out there (he's in Oahu). Is he right or does he not know what he's talking about?

I think your brother is right.

You don't happen to have ground repeater coverage, do you?

Yeah, it's hard enough to get big-dish satellite signals in Hawaii...
______________

Sirius can be heard in Hawaii, but better at some parts of the day, than others, as the sats rotate

Re: Sirius in Hawaii?

No one asked about Sirius.

XM can be heard in Hawaii. But only if Herculean efforts are undertaken to do so and only if one is in a sweet spot.

> Wouldn't the repeaters need a sat signal themselves?

As I understand it, yes. The way I was told is that XM terrestrial repeaters have receive and transmit systems. Basically, the receiver picks up the satellite signal, and it goes to the transmitter, which re-transmits it. According to XM's website, it is not licensed to provide service in Alaska or Hawaii. However, I believe you only need a US address to subscribe to the internet streaming service.

Yeah...but I'm looking for a map of repeater coverage.
______________
