XM is adding commercials to their Commercial Free Channels...

I was reading that Dmarc from Google inked a deal on Monday to selling advertising into the XM channel starting in January. I think this is awesome, the major reason why satellite radio was going to take off is now gone for at least XM. I belive the two will merge in the next few years, the fcc will approve it, and so will the DOJ, there is really only room for one great satellite service in america and it's Sirius, the home of howard stern, howard seems to be doing well for Sirius.

I would think people how paid good money to subscribe won't put up with commercials. That was the major reason to switch to a paid radio service, plus more programming options...

I will never be a satleitte radio listener until the service is free. Sure, I'll buy the equipment but not the service.

Am i cheap? No. Why should I, as a radio jock for terrestial radio stations(AM/FM) use my salary to support a station that is free of ads.. which pay my salary in the first place?

The only commercials on XM's music channels are on four channels programmed by Clear Channel, which won the right to sell advertising on them by defeating XM before an arbitration panel. CC was a big original investor in XM, and the panel ruled that it retained the right to sell ads on channels it programmed for XM even after XM made commercial-free music its policy.

The advertising being generated through the Google partnership will air on the news/talk/sports channels, which have always had commercials.
