I've always enjoyed Music Choice, and not having heard XM, I wonder how it compares to Music Choice programming. I have Sirius in the car and come Nov 15, XM via DirecTV in the house.

I'm not sure I like this. The Music Choice channels are great, and all of them were truly commercial free, not to mention providing you with the artist and album names to purchase the music later.

To be fair, it'll be a good thing for me if XM on DirecTV includes the Air America channel, XM's Public Radio channel, and/or "The Power". But I'll be really steamed if it lacks comparable alternatives for MC's 'Classic R&B', or 'Classic Disco/Old School Rap'. I just might flirt with returning to digital cable if that happens...before coming to my senses.
______________

XM's "Soul Street" = MC's "Classic R&B"
XM's "Chrome" = MC's "Classic Disco"
XM's "The Rhyme" = MC's "Old School Rap"

I'm going to devote a dozen or so tapes to recording Music Choice's "Retro-Active" channel before DirecTV switches over, just in case there either isn't a comparable XM channel (80s New Wave/Modern Rock) or I don't like the replacement.
______________

"Soul Street" focuses on '60s/early '70s R&B/Motown, while "The Groove" takes care of the late '70s and '80s. But, for some reason, DirecTV will only offer "The Groove" to subscribers of Total Choice Plus or higher.

XM has two "classic modern rock" stations: "Fred" (deeper cuts) and "Lucy" (more mainstream, plus they mix some newer alternative in their playlist). Chances are, you'll like only one or the other.

This is a bad thing for most business customers. Most bars and many restaurants use DirecTV's music choice as their background music. It's perfect since there are absolutely no commercials or imagers...just back-to-back songs. All of the XM channels carry imaging sweepers, promos, and many feature DJ's chatting it up. Most places of business are not going to like that. I bet that this change will cause many places to switch to DMX or Muzak.

The question, then, will be, if DirecTV only offers one of the two, will I like it?

Because to be honest, I'd rather have more mainstream with a mix of deeper cuts, which is pretty much what Music Choice's "Retro-Active" is. I don't want new songs in the mix, nor do I want to go deep without staying close to the "hits".
______________

I bet I won't like that at all, by comparison.
______________
