XM Signal

Is it just my luck (i'm in South Florida), or is anyone else been having signal problems for the last few days? My system hasn't moved in 3 months, and since Sunday it's been fading in and out. Today, i'm not even receiving a signal. At this rate, being a new subscriber, i'm ready to 86 my subscription and just make mp3's

Maybe a repeater in your area is down? Call XM to find out. Or take it to Best Buy or Circuit City to check it out. I had the same problem 2 years ago, and I took it to Best Buy and they gave me a used antenna for free. Don't give up on XM. 8)

I’m glad I’m not the only one having problems with my XM Signal. But then again I live in an apartment, and I don’t have a south facing window. Back around the end of May I moved in to a new place. Somehow my radio wasn’t receiving a signal. I got a new receiver, and an Antenna. However, I will have my antenna pointed a sir ten way in my window seal. But after a while the signal comes in and out. I wonder if it is because of where I live, or are a lot of the repeaters having problems. I am thinking about counseling my XM subscription after 6 months.

Hey Stu - Whachu' doin' over here at the XM board ? As for me I'm merely voicetracking over here ! :D

As you already know I too have XM, and I too live aqui en el Sur de Florida. Really ? Of course ! :D

I've had my XM boombox and antenna situated in a fixed position ever since I bought it for myself for Christmas last December. I actually located the exact position of the XM satellite in the sky at 65.5 degrees above my home, and I pointed the antenna straight to it (through my living room ceiling / roof). It hasn't moved since. I have always picked-up superiour reception and sound quality with it.

The only time I can ever recall receiving fade-ins and outs was during the Vernal Equinox last March. For a few days on both sides of the Equinox when the Sun was directly over the Equator the XM faded-in and out for several minutes during the early-afternoon as the powerful rays of the Sun essentially blew away the XM satellite from behind and basically blinded all XM reception here on Earth at my particular location. It'll happen again this September during the Autumnal Equinox.

We here in South Florida are closer to the Equator than anyone else who receives the XM satellite signal. The satellite is higher in the sky for us than for everywhere else further north. As a result of the more direct upward path to and from the satellite we don't have the same reception or audio problems that a lot of our fellow XM fans have up north.

I know that you posted your message on here several days ago, so are you still having problems with it ?
