XM Sports

How well is the NBA playoffs covered? I almost thought about getting XM the other night when I was driving back trying to find the Mavs playing, I had no luck what so ever. I'd like to get at least updates of the game if I could of. I was just about a hair away from getting XM that night.

Sirius has exclusive rights to all NBA team broadcasts. However, both services can carry ESPN's national coverage on a non-exclusive basis. That limits XM to occasional weekend and holiday games during the season and most, but not all, playoff games during the postseason. My guess is that ESPN Radio was committed to a Major League Baseball game that night and passed on the NBA game; Sirius would have had the NBA game with the participating teams' feeds. (But not the baseball game on ESPN Radio; XM claims total exclusivity for baseball.)Bottom line for sports fans:MLB -- XM, exclusivelyNFL -- Sirius, exclusivelyNBA -- Sirius, team feeds exclusive, ESPN non-exclusive; XM, ESPN non-exclusiveNHL -- Both services, non-exclusive, until the 2007-08 season, when XM gains exclusive rights.College football and basketball -- XM, ACC exclusive, Big 10 minus Ohio State and Michigan, Pac 10 minus USC and UCLA, Big East minus several schools. Sirius, nearly 30 major schools from various conferences (including the Big 10, Pac 10 and Big East school left out of XM's deals) plus Notre Dame, all exclusive.NASCAR -- XM exclusive until the end of the current season; NASCAR becomes Sirius exclusive in 2007.PGA -- XM exclusiveTennis -- Sirius, Wimbledon exclusive. XM, US Open exclusive.World Cup soccer -- XM exclusive.See why sports fans are among the loudest voices calling for the end of the foot-dragging on the interoperable receiver?
