XM VS. FM audio level

Got a friend who just bought a new Chevy SUV. It has an in-dash LCD with which you control the radio.

Couldn't help but notice when flipping from FM to XM, the audio from XM appears to be configured about 3-4db louder than FM.

Or, the opposite is true. Either way, XM appears significantly louder than terrestrial radio.

Anyone else notice this with newer stock radios?

Yup... Bet they do that by design actually. Louder and "cleaner".. hehehe (digital grunge in reality)

Keep in mind that GM gets some $$$ for getting people to sign up with XM.

;D

Check the radio setup

Most car radios have the ability to adjust the level of XM. You'll have to read the radio's book, I guess!

I wonder if it's got anything to do with the chronic overmodulation and over-power of terrestrial repeaters that both XM and Sirius have been accused of?

And where are those repeaters? Can we see them as we see AM and FM stations?
