XM vs. Sirius Rock Channels

I have XM Radio and I do like that they dig "deep" into their tracks, but I find some of their rock channels need improvement.

Squizz 48 is all over the place, are they nu metal, hard rock or just rock?
XMU 43 is cool but a little "too cool" (I don't hear enough Indie...lots of real obscure stuff)
Ethel 47 is a great station

I have listened to Sirius Rock Channels, and I must say, first they have more, and their playlists seem to fit the stations. Sirius Rock seems to be more focused rather than XM Rock

Opinions?

My opinion is that XM and Sirius both have some excellent rock channels, and both have some that could use improvement. As an example, I happen to really like Hair Nation and Buzzsaw (both are FAR superior to XM's BoneYard) and Sirius Disorder. However, I would prefer XM's Top Tracks over both Classic Vinyl and Classic Rewind. Granted, they're following marketing rule #1, "ALWAYS segment the market," but I really think Sirius segments the classic rock market a little too much. There's a lot of overlap between artists, if not song titles, on those two channels. However, XM segments alternative a little more than it should. To put it simply, I don't understand why they need Fred, XM Cafe, Ethel, Squizz and Lucy when Sirius only has two alternative channels. However, I must admit I really enjoy XM Cafe. The Loft is another one I enjoy. Nothing on Sirius really compares exactly to either one.

Overall, XM seems to favor more towards obscure and modern, while Sirius tends to lean more towards older and classic rock. I'd like XM to have as many rock channels as Sirius. It's too bad XM's bandwidth is limited.

> Actually, Sirius classic rock selections blow XM's away. More is better. The depth and variety one can offer on 5 classic rock channels beats 2 any day. They program it in such a way as to keep early classic rock(65-mid 70s) seperate from later classic rock (late 70s to 80s) and the deeper tracks being on the Vault. I would not want the vault cuts to be mixed in with Classic Rewind or Vinyl, plus Sirius channels are not on robotic juke box mix, the dj's on the Dog are great!!

Everyone has a different opinion. If you don't like classic rock, then you won't like 5 channels. If you don't like listening to DJ chatter, like me, you would prefer XM. Different strokes for different folks. That is why it is good there are 2 satellite companies.

Well said!I am not much into DJ's either.
Fred rules!

I love all of XM's rock channels..from XMU, Ethel, to Unsigned, I love the depth and the variety. Keep it up XM!

Well, this is a board of opinions, and it goes back to the better service depends on what you like. Personally, I like listening to the popular classic rock songs, and I don't like flipping between two channels to hear them. If you like the depth on Sirius and don't mind having to flip for the entire classic rock era or are more familiar with one of the two segments, more power to you!

I would agree with you on Vault cuts. XM has its own channel for that called Deep Tracks. As for the deejays versus the juke box, for me, it depends on what mood I'm in. If you read my post a thread down, you'll notice that I mention Sirius has more channels that sound like a terrestrial radio station. Sometimes, I'm in the mood for that. Sometimes, I'm not.
