XM

One thing that I've noticed is that many bars/businesses play sirious/xm now instead of muzak, canned music or a local station.

The "decade" formats are probably not quite that deep. But my wife always wants the 80's channel on when she's in the car and they get pretty far off the beaten path sometimes. In their case, the core is tighter but they seem to have a category of more obscure stuff that's maybe on a lunar rotation, or they refresh it every month or two. Still not 300 songs, though.

I listen to XM-6 several times a week. Most of the playlist seems to be Billboard Top 100 for the year, maybe Top-50 or Top 75. And it seems pretty thin on 1960-62, so a playlist of 500-700 for the decade would strike me as a reasonable number (purely as a guess, of course).

Plus they do countdown shows on the weekends where you get some really obscure stuff..

Sirius/XM has a commercial service intended just for use in businesses. Perhaps it is more price-competitive than
Muzak, I'm not sure. Businesses have always had a problem with local radio, ranging from ads playing for competitors to
occasional dust-ups over performance fees. (certain chains have been known to send out the "don't play radio stations
in the store during business hours" memo whenever ASCAP lawyers were snooping around)
