I hadn't noticed this, but I checked my radio and you are correct. What I don't get is why XM wastes bandwidth on a highly-compressed "Channel Not Available" audio channel, and offers so many of these for various channels that aren't currently broadcasting. Why not just use the display, or at least just have one "Ch N/A" and point all "missing" channels at it within the software?
(Actually, why not just temporarily change Ngoma to mono instead of stereo and run liners hourly or so that would explain the situation?)
FWIW, I'm very disappointed to learn bandwidth is at such a premium, because it may very well mean the loss of current programming to meet CRTC CanCon requirements. (I am not against Canadian programming, but OTOH, not looking forward to losing US programming. I would prefer to get Canadian programming in addition to, rather than instead of, the current lineup. But I will wait and see what XM offers before complaining.)
(Does this mean that anytime the Red Cross needs to activate their channel in the future, that a music channel will be turned off? And why turn off a music channel? I'd rather lose a TV-simulcast feed if need be.)
I will also say I'm surprised that it was a WorldSpace channel that got temporarily "cut", as I thought that programming provided by partners was all by contract, and I had assumed such contracts guaranteed such programming a slot on XM. I would have thought XM would cut an in-house channel before one from a partner. (Perhaps, however, the WorldSpace contract is more flexible, especially since XM doesn't clear any ads for them anyway?)
