Xmas in Atlanta

Does anyone think that Star94 might go all Christmas? What are your predictions on Cumulus, I am almost certain one of their stations would go all-Christmas sometime soon. What about B98, with the new ratings jump, will they keep it the same. The fish is always going to go all-Xmas because of their ratings success when they do.

An the always burning question, when will it all happen, earlier or later?

all i'm hoping that whoever decides to go all xmas first the neey to do it on november 1st I have a feeling that journey 97.9 will be going all xmas then the fist then b98.5 and star 94 might do like previous years. but let's wait and see what happens.

At this point, The Fish is the only station that is guaranteed to go Christmas, just a question of when. It will be interesting to see what and when B98.5 does, as well as what Cumulus might do with Journey or perhaps a dead station walking (Rock100.5 or AGH, not Kicks or Q100).

B98.5 has been selling Christmas music to its clients. So if the station is having second thoughts, it's too late. And I can tell you that Star 94 is definitely not going Christmas music.

well yeah last year the fish went all christmas first before anyone.

It's not ofically Christmas until the greatest non-relgious Christmas song ever gets played,it's on every Waffle House jukebox during the month of December, song by a guy named Elmo(not the Sesame Street chracter) something about grandma's and reindeers. :)

Based on the thread title, I was expecting a discussion about local radio layoffs...

"It's the most horrible time of the year..."

Now here's a question.  Is there really that much inertia preventing people from changing stations if one station goes Christmas before another?  If, say, The Fish (or a Cumulus station to be named later) goes Christmas before B98.5, does that really keep people from tuning in to B98.5 because someone else was first?

Is this more true with passive listening opportunities (businesses using radio as a cheap substitute for Muzak, people who don't listen to radio at home much and use Christmas radio as part of their decor, LWYW, etc.) than active listeners/button pushers?  Obviously, passive listening is more important with PPM vs. diaries.

Does the music mix matter much?  For example, The Fish tends to have a smaller, tighter Christmas playlist with more religious songs (natch) and fewer novelty hits ("Grandma", "Hippopotamus", "Two Front Teeth") than B98.5.

You MIGHT hear Bob & Doug McKenzie's "12 Days of Christmas" on B98.5. You definitely won't hear it on The Fish.

I have never heard Bob & Doug's 12 Days on 98.5. I have heard the Eagle's 'Please Come Home For Christmas" about ever time I listened to B98.5 when they do Christmas. The more I think about it, the old 96 Rock might have been the last station to have it in their Christmas rotation.

So. Who's got the Chad Mitchell Trio version in rotation? Last heard on WAVA-FM long long ago in their Music Americana show one or more nights.
