XMAS Music Already?!

Yesterday afternoon, I was in a little food/drink establishment that is a favorite of mine. They keep WAMS on the radio 7 days a week - or at least they did. During PM drive Wednesday, WAMS started playing Christmas music! Not exclusively, but enough that the customers and staff complained about how stupid it sounded when it was only November 1st and the station was promptly turned off.

Good going WAMS. You just lost 90% of your audience!

Get real! If any other station did it, you would praise them. The new Tim Allen Santa movie will be out Friday, will everyone protest that? Get a life and move on!

If you're going to be in a creative environment, you've got to learn how to properly accept a little criticism.

It's my understanding this station changes its format every few minutes. Why should now be any different?

The comparison to the Tim Allen movie is absurd. The promotion of Hollywood films uses a totally different model than does radio. A movie only has a few short weeks to make the bulk of its theatrical revenue. Actually, it's more like a few weekends, as that's when the majority of filmgoers catch movies. A Christmas movie must time its release accordingly, knowing well that nobody wants to see a holiday movie a moment after December 26th has arrived.

Any radio station playing Christmas music during the first week of November is ridiculous. Unfortunately, major markets see silly "Christmas music wars" so one or more stations feel the need to go all-Christmas to be competitive for agency ad dollars. While I don't like it, I understand how and why it happens.

But for a station like the present day WAMS to be playing Christmas music on the first day of November is downright preposterous.

Get a life and move on!

This board exists solely to discuss, analyze, and critique Delaware radio. While one could argue we all need lives, "moving on" would render this forum obselete.

Dave,

I never have and never will praise any station that plays Xmas music before the Thanksgiving weekend.

Nothing tops New Jersey last year...

WTTH/WDTH 96.1/93.1 in New Jersey started playing Christmas music round the clock starting October 17th last year. :)

Since I have never listened to Delilah and have no idea what stations she is on, I have nothing to say about her on any topic.

Wow, Delilah is spinning Christmas tonight, I guess WTUX will have nothing good to say about that.

In past years (and this one, too, I believe), Delilah offers two shows at the same time - one with normal AC music and another with all Christmas music. All an affiliate has to do is change satellite channels whenever they want to go all-Christmas.
