So, I am back on the Island this weekend until the new year, and I was very curious to check out the reborn Party 105.
I think I heard Andre's voice once or twice introducing new music, although it was hard to always make out what was said. It is either the automation or messy board work, but the intros were low and squashed by both the new music liner and the music itself.
I heard some semi-commercials. I suppose that the Ski Stop mentions and the 1-800-Flowers mentions could be considered something akin to a sponsorship, but they sure sounded like commercials to me.
I did hear Andre for sure, during a club wrap-up. It sounded like a "where we're at" break, except I don't think they were actually AT any clubs! My recent memories of Long Island clubs had Party doing live broadcasts almost nightly at some points. I'm assuming they have, at least for now, completely lost their hold on club remotes.
My personal opinion is that this radio station needs jocks. No question. The music is loaded with dance, but I heard Destiny's Child and Sean Paul and the like quite frequently. Between BLI and The Beat on the East End playing that stuff, not to mention Z100 and KTU, Party 105 isn't going to reclaim its status like this. I heard Cascada on BLI at least 5 times. Party needs to embrace its personality with some intensity. They need to offer the identity that made them successful. They need less reggae, less hip hop, and really, really need DJ's. Party has seen some of the most fun personalities in radio pass through, and TMO needs to stop cutting corners, stop with the low-budget radio and treat Party like the station that seemed destined to take over 92.7 WLIR. Pay some talent, turn off the automation and have some darn fun!
In my opinion, of course.
