...I worked at USA Sams and the (Slide) Caribou lol. WCMF in Rochester went through a realization process a few years back and dumped trying to be young and hip by going back to straight forward classic rock with a tight playlist of standards including the rock that was popular in the market to a 50 year old. This would be a smart approach for a Heritage Rock station in Syracuse. The morning show should be top-notch as well. If you recall when Stern was there, the music was 95% classic rock. It just worked better for us listeners in CNY compared to the station Stern was on in NYC which was new rock.
...with that said, I think the jocks on 95x have been sounding pretty good. They need a much stronger, better known talent in the morning, with the correct focus on music. The station over the years has been musically programmed whether it be new or classic rock, sometimes well and sometimes not so well. The classic rock music programmers have been good sometime but it could have always been done better to this music man's ear. The 95x that us saloon-going good-time 50 year olds remember for Syracuse has been gone for a long time. A few subtle changes and the listeners will become comfortable and start tuning in more often. The heritage listeners need something heritage sounding that reliably delivers a good "Holy cow I haven't heard that in years" tune on occasion. "I saw that artist at Uncle Sams" "That artist lives in Syracuse" and other things should be coming out of their mouths when listening to 95x. Not "Who does this song".
