Xtreme

Is X1075 even a player in the market or the national scene anymore? All of their talent is terrible. The new morning show is simply awful, and the music is like a bad ipod shuffle songs that should have gone away long ago.

Area still sucks, and KOMP is just a cookie cutter active rock. Is rock dead?

Rock is dead everywhere. If your not playing Rap, Spanish, or Talk, your losing money. As a youth, I idolized Xtreme. I even competed in their "Xtreme Idol" dj competition. I just hope they hang in there until rock comes back around.

Spanish is a language not a format.

How can you play Talk?

KMXB and KSNE do well and don't play rap, and KLUC plays a lot less than they used to

Oh, I'm sorry...

It appears you have completely missed my point...

My point is that rock formats are not receiving any attention right now. The formats that ARE receiving attention are Rap, talk, and Spanish-language formats. Yes, other formats are surviving just fine, because you can't have 6 Rap stations in one market. However, those formats aren't really receiving any attention, their just hangin' out, waiting for the American music landscape to come back around their way.

Is that a little more "educated" sounding for you?

Rock is doing fine in a lot of markets. KUPD, the Active Rock station in Phoenix is very strong in all demos.

KIOZ/San Diego is top 3 18-49 and 18-34

KROQ/L.A. is still strong in all adult demos

WMMR and WRFF Philly do pretty good

WAXQ/New York is top 3 25-54

Alternative KTBZ/Houston is a monster

Seems like rock is fine.

Where is Rap receiving attention? Hip-Hop stations are doing fair although not great in PPM. However, Power 106/L.A. has recently become huge again in PPM.

Top 40 is on a roll right now - which is what KLUC is.

Researcher, you have listed only a few top 10 markets. Las Vegas is still #32 and hasn't had a significant rock radio presence since anyone can remember. KKLZ was an excellent classic rock station until Beasley killed it because they don't know anything about that format. Lotus's The Point: Forever lame. A bland, tightly-playlisted snore-fest that was never a player to begin with, so there was nothing to lose there. Extreme showed signs of promise but CBS worked hard to kill it and has almost succeeded. Alternative 107.9 was fun at first, but a terrible signal and bad hires within management are still threatening to kill it as we speak. Sensing a pattern here? The only rock station that has survived and remained popular is KOMP, which compared to larger-market rock stations, is certainly nothing to write home about. It takes a commitment, not only to the music but to communicating with your potential listeners and caring about their lifestyles to the point you can become and stay a part of them. Not a single corporation that owns radio stations in Las Vegas has demonstrated that kind of commitment because they are convinced they can't make enough money advertising to those listeners, and that's the main reason rock formats aren't flourishing here. For that matter, there is no must-hear terrestrial radio in Las Vegas, regardless of format. Hasn't been in a very long time.

KXTE is currently the lowest rated full power, general market FM station in LV. Maybe they will do better with PPM? We will find out soon enough. If they don't improve they should consider an idea I threw out before...KXNT FM.

Somebody told me AREA 107.9 recently had a signal upgrade. Has anyone else heard this or noticed any difference?
