Y-102

In a filing by Clear Channel today, the company lists the markets it wants to divest. Included: Reading. That means Y-102 and newly-religious 1340 WKAP are for sale.
What would the market ownership limits be for Reading? There are fewer signals than many markets and there must be revenue limits as well.
CC was limited to just four stations in the Lehigh Valley.
Could Citadel be a buyer since they're in the Valley with two FMs? Who else might be a buyer?

From my understanding they are already sold the article I read said that CC accepted the bid, they also got rid of all the stations in Lancaster including WLAN and all in Williamsport including WVRT

If Nassau were to come to the table why would they flip a cash cow and make frank station the flagship? It wouldn't make sense to change y102. They have been there longer and have the wider recognition and larger audience. If they to buy y102 it would make more sense to flip 107.5 to another format. Cash speaks volumes and frank doesn't have the billings that y102 does.

Likely said cc will get a nice premium on the markets near the top of their list. But it is likely that CC has a buyer lined up for certain stations already and wants to sell 468 of them to fewer buyers rather than have the pain of 400+ different transactions. I don't see them selling lots of them piece meal. but as we all know they are slaves to the dollar and if the price is right they will take the offers.

i said nassau because 'Frank' is so new, why would they want to completely change it? the could adopt Y102's format and keep it as a classic rocker, and do something else (possibly spanish?) with WRFY's signal

Yeah we all know how lucrative the spanish format is with media buyers and ad agencies...LOL ;D

So would Nassau buy Y102 with for a lot of money only to destroy its revenue base? That is like buying a cadillac and then putting it into a car crusher. Simple economics you don't pay a premium for something to destroy it.

If Nass would pony up there would be only be minor adjustments made but they wouldn't change it to the point of losing money. Which is why Nass may not likely be the buyer of it.

They (Nassau) bought the best growth opportunity in the area with buying 107.5 While they paid more than what it was worth - the potential for growth from it is there with the 107.5 property. Where Y102 is a more established almost heritage in the market. This makes it more likely that another radio company would be the buyer. Just my .02 cents worth. FREE CASH FLOW IS THE BOTTOM LINE

Look at cumulus when they took over 92.1 in H-burg area they took that from a small local to Hot 92 which they surely are seeing some benefits from that and revenue has likely grown from that deal. Let's remember it is about making money hand over fist. As much as we like to think otherwise they are in it to make $$ not lose it.

after reading that, im starting to change my mind...if nassau were to buy it, they should put the frank name on WRFY's signal and make it more like the current WRFY, and make WFKB HOT AC/CHR...which is needed in the reading market

No...alot of marketing money has gone into Frank on 107.5. It shoud stay there and Y-102 relaunched as a Hot A/C. It's a real mess now musically because they're trying to cover too many bases. It has a Heritage name and could easily be retooled as a Hot A/C. That is if Nassau purchases it.

Here's my question, more technical in nature. If my memory serves me correctly, wasn't WRFY required to drop their ERP from 19.kW to 10.kW (same HAAT) when Clear Channel took over? I'm thinking it had to do something with Clear Channel being maxed in the Philadelphia market. When Clear Channel sells, wouldn't the new owner (assuming they didn't reach the ownership limits) be able to boost the signal back to the original power? I'm sure an application would have to be sent to the FCC and a CP would have to be issued, or could that all be bypassed?

If Nassau gets a hold of Y102, its a no-brainer:

Keep Y-102 the same and expand the library.

Blow up Frank and make that the Hot AC or whatever.

NO! dont blow up frank we dont need hot ac, make frank classic rock instead of classic hits, and leave y 102 the same, except add some more hard rock like wmmr or wzzo

I'd love to see Y102 return to the Rock Hits like they were back in the 90's. Hair bands, classic rock, more obscure rock and play the current stuff that no other station (let alone a Top 40er) spins. Don't get me wrong, today's WRFY is the best, hands down. But, they too, have let the consultants drive the bus. Sure, they're in a dogfight with Frank and the motive is "just play the hits", but the reaction to FKB should have been "what-the f***-ever" and continue to program as if you are the only game in town.
