Y95 vs Eagle: Imaging
I'm pretty certain that Y-95 did not use jingles in all dayparts until Jams 1989's release of Turbo-Z, which Y put at top of hour and used in all day parts.
It does seem correct that prior to '89, Y-95 reserved jingles for the Morning Guys only... does anyone remember?
KEGL I believed always used Jingles; I was wondering what Jingle Packages The Eagle used over the years.
Jay? Anybody?
Y95, IIRC, only used jingles for the last 2 years of its life. In addition to JAM's "Warp Factor" and "Turbo Z", they also bought "Z Force", another JAM package.
While I'm on the subject, I want to point out that one popular misconception over the years is that another Dallas jingle company, TM (now TM Studios), released a package called "Dallas Power" in early 1989 using Y95 as the pilot station. Because of that, everyone had assumed that Y95 had actually used the package.
They did not!
"Dallas Power" was actually a reworking of an earlier custom package that was created for KCPX/Salt Lake City, UT. When TM decided to market the package, they chose Y95 as the pilot station, even though they weren't airing jingles between songs. This practice is nothing new as there is a ton of jingle demos from just about every company out there that had never actually use the jingles.
Anyway, sorry if I'm off topic, back to the topic.
KEGL, as mentioned, used JAM, starting with the "Hitradio" package around 1984. They also used cuts from "Hitradio 2", "Warp Factor", and "Skywave". Around 1989, they went to Century 21 and bought cuts from "WPLJ-The Jingles" (later re-worked and re-named "Hollywood's KIIS"). Then in 1991, they went back to Century 21 (which was merging with TM to form TM Century) to purchase cuts from "KIIS 91" (a.k.a "LA's #1 Hit Music Station"). This was the last jingle package they bought before switching to Rock 40 in 1992.
And just for the heck of it, since were on the subject of jingles:
KAFM used TM's "Airpower" and JAM's "Warp Factor" and "The Flame Thrower" while KTKS used JAM's "Hot KIIS", "Fresh Kiss", and "The Flame Thrower".
