Y&R same day broadcast will be heading over to TV GUIDE Network...

From ABC's SoapNET this summer. This happens to be the first-ever deal to bring the venerable 40-Year Old Sony Pictures TV-Produced Daytime soap as CBS has just acquired one-half ownership of TVGN along with Lionsgate Studios owning the other half. Y&R will continue to be shown at 7/6P Central-the same time it's currently showing over on SoapNET.

I read an article that said Y&R's prime time showing has been the highest rated show on SoapNet for the past five years. I wonder if TV Guide will eventually get the Bold and the Beautiful?

Wasn't SoapNet supposed to go away a year or two ago? I wonder if ABC is trying to set the stage to finally shutter SoapNet. What are the chances they dump re-airs of GH and (I don't know if they have this) DOOL?

SoapNet has been on AT&T U-Verse and a few other cable providers who, until now, had yet to carry the new Disney Junior channel. Disney let it be known in no uncertain terms, that "grace period" was fast coming to an end. SN will have the General Hospital 50th anniversary celebration, and the channel goes dark at the end of April I think.

Once that happens, ABC could move it's same day broadcast of GH on ABC Family at Midnight Eastern, following The 700 Club, which is anyways dead time. Currently ABC Family schedules "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" reruns then.

Or even better, blow up The 700 Club and put General Hospital at 11 (speculative). Let Old Man Robertson raise a ruckus if he wants to.

Either he's buying the time, or it's part of the contract from the original buyout of The Family Channel to Fox to ABC. Either way, it ain't happening.

CBN can re-take the entire channel if Disney moves to remove the 700 Club. Fox made a bad deal when they bought the channel from CBN and Disney inherited it. They also have to run the CBN telethon once a year.

From what I've read, it's the latter. The contractual obligations mandated the channel to run The 700 Club (along with an additional daily CBN program that usually preceeds the 10 a.m. ET airing of 700 and a Sunday daytime block of CBN's telethons), in addition to barring the word "Family" from ever being dropped from the channel's name.

Couldn't ABC just use the HD feed and down scale and put it on basic cable and get out of the contract? One would think they could do whatever they wanted with the HD feed since, It did not exist when the contact was written.

maybe they're just waiting until Old Pat goes to Jesus to do that

I'm hoping that ABC Family does pick up the "pieces" of SoapNet programming. Anything that doesn't go to TVGN, anyway. The same day rerun of GH is of course a no brainer, and how about carrying the AMC & OLTL half hours? They could schedule them in the post-700 Club morning slot, because it's probably hard to draw an audience after CBN anyway, so why not put something that has a fan base that will tune in?
